Best TV @ Best Buy Retail Stores?

My best friend is fixing to quit working at Best Buy, and I'm looking to buy a new TV. He wants to hook me up with his employee discount before he quits, but I'm not sure which TV I should get. I'm leaning very heavily towards a widescreen TV, but out of the widescreen models that Best Buy offers... to the people who are in the know, what would be my best move to pick up right now? Not necessarily the most expensive one, but the best one for the money as far as widescreen goes. Thanks for the help.

Get a Toshiba TW40X81 if you can...40" 16X9 for about $2400 or so...I got one at Best Buy on open box...and I LOVE it!!!

I'll second the Toshiba.
I love my 40". Get that if money is a concern. If you can afford it get the 56".
And if you can afford and HAVE SPACE for the 65" get that!!!

I don't know if they carry it but I was really impressed by the Sony 36" XBR WEGA (KV-36XBR400) if you want to consider a 4:3 TV. It usually retails for $2499. Below is hte link to Sony's web page on it.

The Pioneer widescreens, 53" or 56" are always the best looking sets on the floor. They're expensive, but if you get a good discount you'll have a great deal. You might want to get a real progressive DVD player too to go along with it and you'll have about as good as you can get.

Thanks for the help... just a question, but what's the difference between the 40X81 and the 40H60 or whatever the new "H" model is of the 40" toshiba screens? Anything insanely huge? Just wonderin, thanks.

I have to agree with X, regarding Pioneer...

53" HDTV. I bought mine in September.

I love this TV big time, picture is Flawless!

Should your friend not be able to get good discount?

I bought mine @ 800.com & got free postage & no tax.

Where I live that's $320.00 savings "no tax".

I also agree with other post far as "Toshiba" 40".

This is also a great TV & especially for the price!

I have a friend that's buying "Toshiba" soon!

I totally recommend going with a 16:9 TV, for sure!
On my TV all movies with aspect ratio of 1:85 or less...

fills my screen with no black bars at all.

Only the 2:35 & higher still shows small black bars.

The DVD's have to be anamorphic for above to apply.

Best of luck whatever your choice will be.

If you can wait until around January when Best Buy is having a Super Bowl blowout....I would look for the new Pioneer which I am guessing will drop by at least $500.00 and maybe more if you can snag a preferred customer coupon which would give you an additional 10% off your purchase....you should also be able to get at least one year same as cash for this purchase!!!

Maybe I should explain this a little more -- I want quality, and I want widescreen, and I was seriously looking at the Pioneer 53" model.. but, well, the place I'm putting this 16:9 is in a single occupancy room in a fraternity house. Once I hit my apartment, the 53" will be all good, but for now, space IS a slight concern. Also, I did some checking, and the 40H80's dimensions according to Toshiba will fit in the back of my friend's Navigator so I can take it home over the summer. So therein lies my problem: What other differences are there between the 40X81 and the 40H80? (Toshibas) Thanks very much for the help again everyone!

Dude, I wish I had this problem when I was in college. I'm lucky my roomate had a 19" I could watch.
