First Surround Sound Setup

I've had my new surround sound system (my first) for three days now, and it's great. It's a bit hard to get the speakers set up exactly right, as I hear far less out of my left ear than my right, but I think I've gotten the soundfield about right. Watching my favourite movie, Jurassic Park, is like watching a whole new movie. I can hear words that I've never heard before, and other lines that I couldn't quite pick up come through crystal clear. I can't wait to watch Star Wars on this thing.

There's no reason to be so rude, smart guy. And it's not funny, either. You act like surround sound was commonplace in the 90s. It may have existed but it wasn't as widespread as it is now. Feel smart now ?

"Welcome to the '90s" the Gary Numan fan says ironically.

Spotted, don't pay attention to that guy, he has 26455* posts and about seven of them have been useful.

*lol, I just figured that if each of those posts only took 1 minute to write, that he has spent 441 hours posting on this forum.

Re: First Surround Sound Setup

I set up my first in my parents' living room when they were on vacation back in...well, a while ago. The first movie I watched was Back to the Future 3, with Dolby Pro Logic encoded right on the tape! When the lightning hit the car at the beginning of the movie, it seemed to slash through the room. Scared the dog, didn't see her for hours. (a little side benefit)

Never looked back. My TV doesn't even have speakers.

I've had surround sound since 1989. Didn't get Pro-Logic or 5.1 til 1998 though.

Seven?! Thanks, that's being quite generous. I did need a new sig, though.

I really wouldn't make jokes about living in mom's basement in this thread.

Well, I thought it was funny (and I was thinking the same thing). I wouldve said welcome to the 2000's though.

It is really a big revelation when you finally hear it in your own home. As you say, it's like giving new life to movies and TV shows you've seen many times.

I am space-limited right now so I just have a cheap one. When it dies, I'll buy something a little better. But no question, you certainly won't want to watch anything with the TV speakers again once you've heard this.

Re: First Surround Sound Setup

The thing that is also great, is the surround on TV. Now with HD TV having surround, I prefer watching regular TV in surround. Of course my theater has only surround. But in the living room I always watch with surround. Of course sports is great, but as is prime time shows such as CSI.
