Re: Finally bought a blu-ray player...
Had to correct an error in my description of how I have cables connected on the DVD/VCR. I'm using an A/V cable to connect the VCR side of the player to the TV, not an RGB cable... -kd5-

Re: Finally bought a blu-ray player...
Got the player today, brand spanking new as promised. Registered it for warranty, swapped cables over from the DVD/VCR, turned it on. 2 different reviewers suggested turning BD Audio Mix Output to Off so the player would use the internal HD codecs properly. Set up the wireless networking, connected for the firmware update, looked through the other settings, popped in the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End DVD, started up quickly, picture looked CLEAN. So far I'm pleased... -kd5-

As to using a HDMI-to-Component, they do work. I'm using one for my older XBox 360 to connect thru my Yamaha 671. The one I'm using came from Monoprice and is powered but so far no issues whatever. It beats getting a new Xbox....

Hey K&A, I was just looking at that adapter and I had this weird thought: Shouldn't the adapter take an RGB (component) signal and output (convert) it to HDMI? Was looking at the pic and noticed input was HDMI, output was component. Just thought it seemed backwards to me. -kd5-

Re: Finally bought a blu-ray player...
OK, now I'm really confused. I was under the assumption that I needed to convert the component signal from my non-HDMI HDTV to an HDMI signal that the blu-ray player could use. I just chatted with a tech support person at Monoprice who said that I need to convert the HDMI that the blu-ray player supports to a signal that the TV can understand, which is basically opposite the way I was thinking it needed to be.
I work on computers, I understand WAY more about computer repair than I do about audio/video devices. I feel really stupid about this, I understand less now than when I started.
So, it appears (unless I'm still mistaken) that the HDMI to Component converter that you linked to the first time is the one I need, and apparently I just muddied the waters with my ineptitude... -kd5-

Re: Finally bought a blu-ray player...
So you're in agreement that the HDMI to Component Adapter K&AJones linked to the first time was in fact the correct adapter for my particular setup?
Sorry K&A for casting doubt on your original assessment. -kd5-

Thanks Spiky, and sorry for being a PITA, I just wanted to make sure that when I buy one, I buy the right one, because having to return the wrong one is a bigger PITA... -kd5-
