I have a Audio Receiver question

I just bought a Denon 1712 receiver and it is hooked up to my Samsung C6500 Blu Ray player (via HDMI). When I play Blu Rays, the receiver display only shows "Multi Channel In", even though I've selected True Dolby HD or DTS HD on my Blu Ray player. The speakers seem to work fine, however I'm wondering if I'm losing any quality and why doesn't my receiver show the correct audio setting? Also True Dolby HD or DTS HD is not a setting available on my receiver to select from.

Thanks

Re: I have a Audio Receiver question

By selecting the audio format on your Blu Ray player, it is doing the decoding and sending the multi channel output to the reciever. No difference really, other than your receiver doesn't show the audio format. If you want to change it, have the Blu Ray player output bitstream & the receiver can do the decoding.

Re: I have a Audio Receiver question

Thanks Eddie. I guess that leads me to my next question. Is there any difference in quality in regards to the player or receiver taking on the decoding?

Re: I have a Audio Receiver question

Shouldn't be. There aren't that many HD audio decoders in the first place. Could be the same one.
