Looking for a portable Blu-Ray player (that is or can be made regionless)
After many years of use my Polaroid PDV-0820T portable player is starting to give me problems. One of the catches on the spindle broke so the DVDs don't sit in there properly. Most of the time it plays fine, once you get the DVD seated properly but I figure it might be time to look into getting a new player. All things considering having something that is regionless is more important than the Blu-Ray, if I can get both that would be nice though. I did come across this at Amazon SONY BDP-SX1000, which does all regions (but only "A" for the Blu-Ray) for ~$400, which seems to be on the high side for a portable Blu-Ray. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this player or if there were any other recommendations? Are there any portable players that have "undocumented" region hacks (that's how I ended up w/ the Polaroid in the first place)?
TIA

I don't know about regionless, but I would avoid the Samsung BD-C8000 (which I have). If you could, I would wait for the new Sony model that is coming and see what you could do in terms of region.

Not much.
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-home-th...ay-player.html My link from there does say BD A/B/C, so different than your Amazon info.

Re: Looking for a portable Blu-Ray player (that is or can be made regionless)
I finally just broke down and got the Sony I mentioned above. I've only had it a couple of days and haven't put it through all the paces yet but so far I like it. The only complaint I have is unlike the Polaroid I had before the Sony doesn't make the PAL>NTSC conversion for video out. So while it plays DVDs from other regions you can't natively put it up on a larger screen w/ the video (composite or HDMI) out
That is disappointing but it isn't really part of how I had planned on using it so it is not a deal breaker.
