I was just lamenting my small 20" TV just now. So my question to everyone is: Where did you get your Sony Wega, which model and how much did you pay?

I got the 20" model for my bedroom throught pointclick long ago. I think it was around $400 but I've seen it closer to $350 now. BestBuy had the 27" for around $539 I think.

Bsteinin, a Sony tech sent me an email saying the set you bought did not have 16:9 squeeze. I was under the understanding that it did. Does it? And how do you like it? I am very close to buying.

sixofsvn,
The wega 'squeeze' can be performed but only by going into the service menu and manually changing the settings. This is the only way and then it must be switched back when you are done. Unless you get the XBR series they will not automatically support anamorphic compression. You can read lots about this at audioreview.com forums.

sixofsvn - I'm glad Eric answered your questions, because I wouldn't have been able to. Thanks Eric!
Also, side note - I've posted this in a few other Wega threads, but there is a problem with a chip in the new model PIP Wegas. An authorized dealer had to come out and fix for me (the TV will turn back on after 254 minutes after it has turned off from using the sleep timer). Under warranty, Sony knows about this, there is no charge.

Eric,
Am I confusing the squeeze with 16:9 enhanced mode? The sony web site still lists the FS16 as having 16:9 enhanced mode. Sorry if I am getting the 2 confused, but I thought they meant the same thing. Thanks for any clarification.

The 16:9 enhanced mode is referring to the same thing. You might have it afterall. I don't really know much about the new models. I have the 36FS10 which does not have it. Also, the service menu is not for the faint of heart. You can REALLY screw things up in there. There are very knowledgeable people over at audioreview.com which can give you much more advice than I can on these topics.

Shouldn't be with the new TVs. My older 27 inch from early 1998 is because it does not have the VUSN toggle in service mode. So to try the squeeze, means changing a bunch of parameters.
But with all the more recent Sony TVs, and not just the WEGAs, there should be the VUSN parameter. This is a 1/0 toggle which turns the 16:9 mode off/on.
This is easy, and if you have a Pronto, or other programmable remote, you could create macros to turn the toggle on/off.
Even though I think the 27KV series I havce is great, I really want to find a way to upgrade to the new 27 WEGA without laying out a lot of dough.
Someday I'd really like to get something like the Toshiba TW series, but I have major space constraints where the TV resides. 27 was pretty much it, but I could probably go 32 if the TV speaker is on the bottom and not sides...
Ok, I have gone off-topic, but again, recent Sonys should be easy to set 16:9 in the service mode.

Ordered the new 36XBR400 for about the same price there.
Good thing I waited as this model supports HDTV.
Should receive shipment sometime next week.

Soundcity carries the new models? I assume this is another Sony product that you have to ask about? Too bad I didn't hop on this deal during free shipping.
Do you know their prices on the 27" model? Which models are HDTV ready?

Just got my 32" FS16 WEGA from 800.com, only took 4 days to deliver. Came out to $1049 + $39 for shipping. Need to wait for my cybershop 20% rebate for $200.
But DAMN! that thing is heavy. We had quite a workout lugging that thing upstairs.
