Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

I'm really on the verge of buying a new set. 73737

My DLP is a 65", but it's a really old model with a huge frame and huge front speakers. I'm already seeing slight discoloration on the right side border during really bright scenes.

I can get it on Amazon with free shipping and no sales tax. But I'd also like to know what would be the best way to unload my old set. It works perfectly fine, but I would really hate to use craigslist and have a stranger over at my house. Any advice would be appreciated.

Please let me know if this is a decent price for the set above, it's really exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Do you have a Costco near you? I'd check there. I'm sure I saw them having the Mit's and pretty sure I saw a 73" version.

But yea...overall I'd say that is a good deal.

Well, after a lot of thought, I finally decided to get the set on Amazon, and used their 24 month no interest financing. Hope I don't regret it!

I'm giving my old set to my grandmother.

you wont regret it. I have a 65835 and I love it, you will notice the extra 8 inches too, it ends up being alot more screen from the 65 inch

It was an extra $500 for the 73", but I figured since I'm getting 0% financing, that it would be worth it.

I don't know, the InFocus X10 is $1300 at TigerDirect. That's 1080 DLP, and FP DLP is vastly superior to RP DLP, and I'm not even talking about screen size.

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

What kind of reviews in that X10 getting? I replaced the bulb in my HD70 at Christmas, but I don't plan on replacing again. I'd love a 1080p in the grand price range.

Oh, and I agree with your comment. And it should go without saying that there is no better value in displays than a FP.

Seems to be the same as all the other X series. Good for the price. It's an early Darkchip DLP, so not the latest and greatest. Hence the price.

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

I'm about to get at 60" mitsubishi dlp. Could someone school me on those? I haven't followed DLP tech. I am reading that lamps last around 8 - 10,000 hours is this about true? I also read that Dlp is pretty comparable to lcd, just not quite as bright.

Thanks guys.

Each model is different, look up its specs. RPTV lamps last longer than front projectors since they have weaker lamps. DLP looks very different than LCD, I'm not sure what you mean by comparable. They are both digital tech.

by comparable I mean, one has a better contrast. Stuff like that. I know that dlp at least in the past came closer to true black than lcd did, but I think that is better on lcd's now.

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

OK, got my tv today and set it up. Everything works great on the set except for one minor thing. I'm using an HDMI switcher, and for some reason when I'm operating my PS3 the screen goes randomly blank as if I was switching input devices, for about a second. It's almost as if the TV loses the signal, but this never happened with my old set. I have my Xbox 360 connected through component, and it doesn't go blank at all... Could it be the HDMI cable or the entire HDMI switch?

thanks.

I don't know. Maybe this thread will help.

FYI: HDMI issue with Panasonic BD60 and Monoprice HDMI switch

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

Well, I'm passing the video feed directly to my TV to see if the screen blanks out. So far, I haven't noticed it. Could be that there is a compatibility issue between the TV, PS3, and Psyclone Switch. I'm testing out my Apple TV through the switch, and so far so good.

If anyone has any info on the Psyclone HDMI switch, let me know

Is that just in the beginning when it's shaking hands, or randomly throughout a movie?

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

It's random throughout a DVD or Blu-ray. I only run audio through my receiver since it doesn't have HDMI. It'll blank out even if I'm on the PS3 menu. It's sooo odd. It hasn't been doing it now that I have the PS3 connected directly to the TV (video only). My Apple TV hasn't done it and it's on the same HDMI switcher. I'm guessing it's an issue between the PS3, TV, and Switch. If anyone has any other advice, I'll gladly take it.

I'm just glad that the TV isn't defective... it could just be the HDMI cable, which I'm gonna switch out in any case.

The TV is GORGEOUS! I turned on the 120hrz but can't notice any difference. I'm guessing it's not as effective on a DLP.

Re: Mitsubishi WD-73737 $1999.00 on Amazon... good buy?

Ok, I had a minor disaster today. The center channel speaker mount that I'm using (Omnimount) finally gave out on my new set since my new TV isn't as deep as my old set. The mount barely fit on my TV, I even had to rig it upside down, but the weight of the speaker (about 30 lbs), still didn't hold up. The speaker wasn't damaged during the fall, but now I'm forced to use a really small center speaker in the meantime.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a mount that will work on my DLP? Maybe a ceiling or wall mount? I've searched several sites, but haven't found what I'm looking for. Any advice will be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

You have a stockpile of center speakers? Which are you trying to use? A shelf on the wall ought to work if the speaker doesn't have connections for using a wall speaker mount.

You can see my stuff. I use plumbing/gas pipes for a lot of stuff. Solid, cheap and you can cover them with cheap plastic conduit if you want.

Also what HDMI switcher are you using? Some early Monoprice one's only worked properly with the PS3 if you used one particular input. I think the last one. But you might try that.

Nah, I had my old Yamaha center channel still in storage when I was given a massive one last year. Glad I held on to it!

Plumbing supplies? LOL Maybe I'll look into that.

I'm using a Psyclone HDMI switch. It won't work properly with my new TV and the PS3, so I just have the PS3 directly connected to my TV, which isn't a big deal. Works great now!
