And just recently the rechargeable battery swelled up to the point where the battery cover literally shot off the remote and it's now unable to charge because it won't sit properly in the dock.

Two days ago I contacted Logitech's online customer service and received a response the very next day saying a brand-new replacement remote would be sent in 7 - 10 days. I was even told not to worry about sending the old one back.

Despite all the problems, I can honestly say this is easily the best remote I've ever owned. Customer service isn't bad either.
I was an somewhat early adopter of the 880. And a lot of the early units had problems sitting in the cradle properly (thus charging problems) and the battery seating correctly. Well I easily fixed the battery issue myself. I called Harmony and they OVERNIGHTED me a new cradle. And like you, did not ask for the old one back.

Obviously it is best if a product never has a problem. But the reality is, they do. So the real issue is what happens next.

Re: Logitech remotes...thoughts/recommendations?

I also have an early harmony 880 with the old cradle design. It always had charging issues not sitting correctly in the cradle. I would have to put something on top of it, and hope it charges up. Just got all my stuff out of 7 months of storage, and it wasen't working at all. Would not charge, not even give the intial beep. What I did was take a dremel and shave down the plastic around the conductors on the back of the remote so they stick out. How it came new the conductors are pretty much flush with the plastic ridge, and that plastic around it was not allowing it to fully seat. Once i shaved the plastic off, it charges up no problem now.

My 890 showed up today from Amazon. Looking forward to replacing 9 remotes.

WOW. I can not believe I waited this long to get this remote control. Set up within 15 minutes. Controls all my devices. It is an incredible remote control. Well worth the $120.00 I spent on it. Amazing.

All the Logitech remotes work just as well. The difference is the higher-end remotes have bigger, better screens and are more ergonomic.

Does anyone have the Harmony 900? Currently, this looks to be the latest and greatest (though you're gonna pay for it).

I'm in the market for one and will likely still look at either the Harmony One or the 880.

A problem with the Harmony One, 900, and 1100 is they don't support sequences. This is a major issue for me. My humble Harmony 360 supports sequences and it would be difficult for me to run my setup without that functionality.

Re: Logitech remotes...thoughts/recommendations?

I've been using a Customizer 300 for years. It's fully programmable and and a learning remote. After 6 or 7 years of service and numerous changes in AV gear it's still going strong. I like the macros that allow me to turn everything on with one button and change the settings of the TV and receiver to the correct DVD player.

Re: Logitech remotes...thoughts/recommendations?

I had the 620 and recently upgraded to the one. I love it! setup was easy, charge lasts a good while when not on cradle, controls all the devices and inputs the way I want them and the best part - people no longer ask "how do I work the remote(s)" when they come over.

Re: Logitech remotes...thoughts/recommendations?

They don't work too well with Samsung HTIB though. Most of the Samsung HTIB use one button to tap through different outputs. The harmony doesn't handle it well.

Re: Logitech remotes...thoughts/recommendations?

OKay, I'm close to buying either the Harmony One, 700, or 890. I am assuming none of these will be able to control the PS3? Any thought and/or suggestions on which will do the job the best?

I have an 880 and One. Both work equally well but I prefer the one for the raised and better spaced buttons.

Have you tried having the Harmony learn the command via infrared manually?
