Looking for DVD Upscaling deal
Looking to get my dad a DVD upscaler for Fathers day. He just got a 42" LCD and loves DVD's.
My $ limit is about 70.00 after coupon code at 6ave.com, I can get the Samsung DVD-1080P9 for 67.00. Is this one any good or does someone have a deal I have not seen? |

re: Looking for DVD Upscaling deal
I have the phillips 5990 which has usb port as well. I don't even know if they're still making them at this point though. I've heard some bad stuff written about it but I haven't had a problem and like it a lot. It goes for around $60 at best buy if you can find it, but if you have no use for a usb port then I guess I wouldn't bother.

re: Looking for DVD Upscaling deal
Yeh, this Sammy has a USB input on it. I read reviews and seems like about 4/5 stars of about 50 reviews I have read from several sites.
This Samsung I am looking at is model "1080P9" if that helps. |

re: Looking for DVD Upscaling deal
I just got the 1080p9 at walmart for about $65. It is nice player so far. I can't speak to its upscaling abilities, as I have it hooked to an SDTV. The one drawback I found is that there is no s-video output, so I'm forced to use the composite connection.

Re: Looking for DVD Upscaling deal
Not this particular model, but RadioShack sold a Memorex with USB port. I bought one but returned it the next day because it was so cheaply made all plastic and light as a feather and the drawer/motor had a clunky flimsey feel to it. And the main reason I bought it was to play avi/mpeg/wmv video files from a flash drive; but it was VERY limited in what file types it recognized. And the customer reviews I read on RadioShack and Amazon were really really bad too. I would stay away from the Memorex.
