so without the analog input how would I say hook up my Sony DVD/SACD player that uses the all five connections?
Does it have an HDMI output as well? I just bought a DVD/DVD-Audio/SACD player for this system that has an HDMI output and analog outputs. I'll have to use the HDMI out.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR507 - NEW!

Wow, Onkyo keeps releasing new models. I started by looking at the 505, but put it off as I was in no hurry to upgrade my receiver. Now, they are on 507....if I wait longer they will be on 510

I have to say, I'm glad I waited. I actually started by looking at the Sony 820 receiver. Then, someone said you might as well get the Onkyo 705. Then, came the eventual 606 recommendations. I was pretty much set on the 607, even though I knew I would never use 7.2 and multichannel analog inputs.
Then, I saw the 507 with everything that I wanted and at a very competitive price. And I haven't looked back ever since. I'm enjoying everything that I wanted: Dolby TrueHD, DTS Master Audio, PCM 5.1, DVD-Audio, SACD and Dolby 5.1 for live HDTV cable. Along with brand new Mirage Nanosat speakers and a Yamaha subwoofer, I have to say I have my dream system within a decent price.

I was looking at the Onkyo TX-SR607 but I'm not going to use 7.2. And I can't get this with free shipping since I'm in Hawaii.

I CAN get the 507 with free shipping, however, and it seems like the big differences between the two are 7.2 surround, 90W per channel (vs. 80W), 1080i upscaling, and on-screen menus.

I have a very small room - only 16' x 13'.

I'm saving about $200 between the 507 and the 607.

Any thoughts on this?

Re: Onkyo TX-SR507 - NEW!

I've been keeping my eye out on this Onkyo -- great price at Amazon.

Is this pretty comparable to Denon's AVR-1609 model (though 7.1)? I have a Best Buy gift cert and they don't carry the Onkyo model.

Wow....$292.40 it would be...seems like a nice price. I may wait a bit longer....no hurry yet, tempting though.

I mean, check it out

Onkyo for $350 here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...kyo-_-82120131

Mirage for $50 each for $250 total
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

Base HSU for $300
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-1.html

So for $1,000 (I added a $100 for whatever), that is a very good sounding overall unit AND will do lossless for the "gotta have lossless" crowd!

(note, I'm just assuming the good sound of the receiver based on Onkyo's in general)
Finalizing my HT setup and I am likely going to go in this direction for the three items that remain for me to complete:

Already have a 54" Panny G10 and Panny BD60 blu-ray player. Decided to go with the Onkyo 507 (I don't plan on updating to 7.1 and wanted full HDMI support).

For the speakers, I want some sats. Looked at Orb, Kef and Mirage -- likely going w/ Mirage due to the pricepoint. Will probably go with the HSU sub -- positive reviews all around and an attractive pricepoint.

Love the HSU. I have it basically on minimum volume, and it is fantastic. What a great sub.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR507 - NEW!

Quick question about this receiver that is frustrating the hell out of me. I cannot for the life of me figure out what I have to do to use the 4th HDMI input. I have pressed every input selector button, and no picture or sound inputs. Is it port? Do I have to change a setting? I know it's not the component because I switched my cable box into that HDMI input, and I can't get it to output a picture when it worked fine on its own input. I really want to use this HDMI input, but I can't. Please help.

Nevermind, figured it out.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR507 - NEW!

I noticed Onkyo released an HT-RC160 which seems pretty similar to the 607...any difference?

Yeah, I'd like some reviews, too. I'm waffling between the more cost effective 507 (don't anticipate ever needing 7.1) or the not-that-much-more-expensive 607 (just because, I guess).

It looks like the main difference is the 2 extra HDMI ports, which is significant. The 507 has 4 HDMI ins.

Here's a review on the 607 from CNET: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...ntMain;compare

The analog video upconversion is not that good and the new PLIIz surround sound format doesn't make much difference.

Otherwise, it's seems to be a solid Onkyo. I love my 507 but I would surely pay more bucks for 2 more HDMI inputs. Not that I need it right now, but who knows what will happen in the future. It's not like you can just add HDMI inputs.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR507 - NEW!

I'm looking at this...NewEgg had it for $350 with FREE IPOD dock. Although, I keep saying I want a new receiver and keep passing on getting one.
