i have a comcast dvr hooked up to my samsung dlp via component cables. now when i tried hooking the component cables into the receiver and hdmi out to the tv's hdmi in i didnt get a picture. i selected hdmi on the reciever but hdmi didnt even show up as a source on my tv. what am i doing wrong?

now since this receiver only sends video through the signal what advantages will i have by using the hdmi? will it just be a switch basically so when i press cable/sat it will automatically switch the tv? or am i wrong about that? i really dont know a damn thing about hdmi.

HDMI is a pain in the ass. Pros hate it.

Let's see....I believe your receiver does not convert from component to HDMI because the HDMI is pass-through only. The only potential advantage is as you said, easier remote control usage if you have more than one HDMI source, otherwise that probably isn't even an advantage. Well, depending on location of all your stuff it may mean easier wiring, but barely.

I'd say go back to running video direct to the TV and audio to the receiver. If you want easier switching, do yourself a favor and spend a few dozen $$$ on a good remote control. Yes, even over $100. Better to save $100 on another piece of equipment and get a real universal remote.
