Just started experiencing audio drop outs on reciever, how to fix?
I have a Sony STR-DG910 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver and I use the mono price HDMI cables.
Lately I've been noticing audio drop outs on all of my components. I have noticed it on my HD-DVD player, PS3, and Cable box.
Sometimes I'll stop the movie, power off the receiver, and fire it up again and that fixes the problem.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Could be several things.
First check to see if your speaker cables are tight at both ends. If that does not fix it, see if the dropouts are in the same places on the same discs. If so, it could be the player or the media.
If not then it might be a cold solder joint failing in the receiver.

This happens to me as well, but only when I'm watching something from HD cable box. I've even switched cables and which input on the receiver I use. Just figured it was a result of my cable box.

How old is the receiver?
I have an Integra 6.2 that's 8 years old. Sometime last year I began having channel failures, meaning one speaker would just cease to work. I'd crank up the white noise and the sound would return. Most of the times it would hold.
One week it would be the right speaker, a month later it would be the other speaker, then sometimes both.
It's deteriorated to the point where I will be buying a new receiver some time this fall.
But I'd be curious why this happens myself, whether it be processing chips, electrical, or something else entirely.
