Problem with Plasma TV
So today we had a brief shower/thunderstorm and the lights went off and on suddenly, while I was watching TV on my Plasma. When I turned it back on, the video signals were distorted, and the language set to German.
I turned it off, turned off the master power on the back, and waited a few minutes. Once I turned it back on, the picture is really dark, with any video signal (cable, PS3, etc) I switched to the component 2 inputs and the picture was super bright. So Ive tried different cables, and combinations, unplugged it, etc etc, and still a really dark picture. HD channels are a little better, but PS3 game play and SD channels are too dark to see.
Called customer support, and of course its out of warranty, no local authorized dealers, but she said it could be a fuse problem. Local TV repair charges $100 just to look at it. So any ideas? Or maybe its toast, and time to upgrade.
I found this on a search, and it may relate: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...8194509AAOQlXq

That is the worst place to get an answer. Some of them are hilariously misinformed.
Anyways, it sucks that you have to pay someone just to look at it. If you do I would weigh the cost of getting it fixed vs. getting a new one. You would be out $100 bucks but if it costs anywhere beyond $500 I would just put that money towards a new TV with better features. How old is your set? Was your TV connected to a surge protector?
