PS3 for movies?
Hey folks
I haven't gotten one yet, but in planning my new HT/Media room I was thinking about getting a PS3 not only for the games but to use as a blue ray movie player. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with it as a movie player and how you think it might compare to just a standard player in audio and video quality? Can it do 1080p or just 1080i?

Hummm yea....the PS3 is the single most popular BD player. Arguably the reason BD "won the war" over HD.
As mentioned there have been numerous discussion on this. In a nut shell,
The PS3 is an excellent BD player. Image quality is on par if not better then a stand alone player. And because of all the processing power in the PS3, it loads much quicker (even faster then my A-3 which is pretty quick). Because it has wifi upgrading FW (which they have done often) is super easy and there have been few reports of crashes during FW upgrading.
As a SD player is does "well". It will up convert and is a nice up converting player. Side by side I don't think it is as good as my A-3 or older Bravo D1. But still good.
Only real issue is the remote. Stupid unit only has blue-tooth. There are some "work arounds", but still a pain in the ass.

Ditto. It's almost getting as bad as "How is Bose". And I'm with you on the BD playback, I think it is great!
