sony bravia talk: xbr 4 vs xbr 5

I am in the market for a sony HDTV 52'' xbr. the question is what is the difference b/w the XBR 4 and XBR 5.

on the sony website i only see a longer warantee and RS232 Control capability for the xbr5. There were no other differences.

??? TIA!

RS-232 port, extra 6 months warranty and the XBR5 has a piano black finish instead of the matte black finish of the XBR4. There are no other differences.

I have an XBR4 and have been extremely happy with it.

RS232 is used by custom installers to send commands to the TV, much like a remote would, but instead with a cable. It's normally used in large home automation systems where everything is controlled from a control panel which doesn't use IR.

Basically get the XBR5 if you like the finish more. It wasn't worth the extra $2-300 to me.

Also, if you have kids, piano finish equals fingerprint magnet! I personally like piano finishes if they're never touched!

the XBR4 just had a price drop. This local reputable shop has it for $3k. Is there a reason why it dropped $200 in the span of 2 weeks?

Ditto on the xbr5 piano finish being a fingerprint magnet. A co worker got one and he said it's awful with kids and all.

I spent a couple of hours on Friday comparing the 52xbr4 and a 52w3000.

I was originally gonna get the xbr4, but I couldn't get over that fugly outer frame that takes up the space of a 60inch tv. Also the "motionflow 120hz" made everymovie look like it was recorded by a camcorder. With the motionflow feature turned off, the image was identical to the KDL-52W3000. The 52w3000 was $700 cheaper. So I went with the 52w3000. I think it looks better with the brushed gun metal frame.

That's just my opinion. Good luck on your purchase you can't go wrong with a Sony.
