Got your PM. But I haven't actually owned or even checked out an Oppo, so I can't say much. Just Malata, Philips, GoVideo, Denon for region-free. Malata was good conversion from PAL, and pretty decent pic overall. Denon is absolute crap PAL-NTSC, but otherwise the greatest player ever made, I just play PAL directly with no conversion since my TV allows for that. Philips & GoVideo make PAL look like NTSC, but aren't real great overall, it's just PAL doesn't look any worse than the USA discs.

Anyway, that's one of very few posts I've ever seen about an Oppo not having good PAL-NTSC, and the only one about dropped frames. Might be the specific machine or specific discs that were a problem for Steve.

I have the Oppo 981 and the picture from PAL discs looks just as good as any of my NTSC discs. The upconversion is terrific and I really haven't had any problems with it at all. I was worried about buying a non-big-brand player, but I've been really impressed.

Just so you know, I run picture to my TV via HDMI. I haven't looked at it with anything else (composite, etc) so if you aren't going to use HDMI I can't really speak to that unfortunately.
