Projection DLP Flicker Problem

I have a small problem with my Mitsubishi DLP television set. About a couple months after I bought it, it started to have a really huge flicker problem where the whole screen would flicker throughout a movie. Since then I bought a better surge protector and the problem seemed to stop, but every once in a while, it'll start to flicker for a short amount of time during viewing.

My question is, what causes a rear-projection tv to flicker, and what can be done to prevent it?

Thanks.

Problem with the lamp, probably. If you have a bad lamp, there is not much you can do but replace it. The lamp warranty is short, better call them right away.

Yeah? Hmmmm. I bought it brand new, I wonder how the lamp went bad so fast.

Also, is the lamp covered by the manufacturer's warranty?

Yes, but it is a different warranty than the rest of the TV, much shorter. Get it checked immediately if you suspect the lamp. Put on a solid color screen, like the blue or grey on an unused input. If the brightness is flickering, that is probably the problem.

If rear projection is like front projection, the lamp has 2 modes, high and low. You can try switching into the other mode, maybe the flicker is temporary and only in one mode. Sometimes the lamp has to burn through a spot that makes it flicker, that can be normal. But I don't know if you have this option or not.
