Expensive HDMI to DVI cable: worth it?

I'm looking for cable to connect my DVD player with HDMI output (Toshiba SD 6980) to my projector with DVI input (Infocus 4805). I need about a 30 foot run. I've seen bettercables.com sell the stuff for $250 while monoprice.com sells 24 AWG gold plated 35 foot cable for $40. Any difference worth worrying about?

Thanks!

I can't say I've used the cables in question, but my experiences with monoprice have all been very good. Great products at great prices!

Barring any defect, all properly constructed cables of the same gauge will yield the same results.

I have a 25 ft. 24 AWG DVI cable from Monoprice. It's generally good but I'm only running it at DVD resolution from an HTPC.

The other night I was noticing faint "sparklies" in the top and bottom black borders of a 2.31 movie, none in the picture. I suppose I'm going to have to do some testing.

Has anyone else noticed that?

Monoprice represents an excellent value. I use a 33 foot DVI -> HDMI cable with the LCD in my bedroom and it works great.

i'm another satisfied monoprice customer. i purchased a hdmi/dvi cable from them for my upconverting dvd player and couldn't be happier. the only difference between the cable that you buy from them vs monster etc. is the price.

I have the same cable, only HDMI. I use it for 720p and have never seen any sparklies that I would attribute to the cable. New HD shows are absolutely pristine. Obviously, there can be source defects that look the same. Or you could have issues with the same cable even though I don't.

I would try reseating both ends of the cable first.
