In short you answered your own question. As to why it's far better to give you a few links to understanding why that is and to look at ll the formats involved....mono, PCM, ProLogic, D.D 5.1, DTS, 6.1, 7.1, DTS-HD and True-HD. Of course it all depends on your setup & equipment as well but here are some good reads and sites....
