You should post this in the Hardware Forum.

Anyway.

Flatscreen - Screen is flat.

Widescreen - Screen is in HDTV aspect ratio 1.78:1

"Regular Tube" - Standard TV aspect ratio TV 1.33:1.

Tube is irrelevent to the point. A "regular" TV can be tube or projection. A widescreen TV can be tube or projection. A flatscreen can be tube, plasma, lcd, projection. It all depends on your perception of what flatscreen is. Some people consider flatscreen to be plasma or lcd however my widescreen HDTV has a flat screen. So....there it is.

While I suppose that this is technically "TV Talk" , I think you're looking for the DVD & Home Theater Hardware forum.

Widescreen is HDTV? (There are no widescreen non-HD now?)

It would make sense, I guess. Why buy the 16x9 without the HD. But still, I could see a market for wide without the extra cost of HD.

It answereth not my question, exactly. In the same way that if thou useth a word to define a word it defineth not the word.

But I thinkst I gets it.

Nay, it doth define thy word.

From the Book of Thread, Post II:

... and the dot spake unto the masses, "yea, the widescreen ratio be that of HDTV," and the assemblages rejoiced. "Beware," he warned ... "resolution of thyne TV be HDTV only when so."

But then the Wizdar did lament loudly, saying, “Art thou of a mind to proclaim to the masses that HDTV will be widescreen also? For surely, they are not the same.”

And the Monkey, growing increasingly impatient, spake as in a whisper, ”Calleth me not Shirley.”

But they were all become sad, for not one had thought to anoint their heads with their most powerful magic:

And Static looked down from on high upon the sinful heads of the non-annointed peasants and spake, "Moving to Hardware."

And Boot sayith confusedly, "Meaneth you 'Movingeth to the Book of Hardware'?"

DVDEALS,

Since the basic descriptions of your questions have already been answered I will just add this as well (because I don't know if you are asking to go and purchase one or not).

Rarely do they make picture tubes beyond 36" because it is too costly (although imo, the best quality besides a front projection).

You will be seeing mainstream tv screens being flat as well (if you went looking) for better quality.
