difference between flatscreen, widescreen, and regular tube tv's??!?

Anyway.
Flatscreen - Screen is flat.
Widescreen - Screen is in HDTV aspect ratio 1.78:1
"Regular Tube" - Standard TV aspect ratio TV 1.33:1.
Tube is irrelevent to the point. A "regular" TV can be tube or projection. A widescreen TV can be tube or projection. A flatscreen can be tube, plasma, lcd, projection. It all depends on your perception of what flatscreen is. Some people consider flatscreen to be plasma or lcd however my widescreen HDTV has a flat screen. So....there it is.

It would make sense, I guess. Why buy the 16x9 without the HD. But still, I could see a market for wide without the extra cost of HD.

Since the basic descriptions of your questions have already been answered I will just add this as well (because I don't know if you are asking to go and purchase one or not).
Rarely do they make picture tubes beyond 36" because it is too costly (although imo, the best quality besides a front projection).
You will be seeing mainstream tv screens being flat as well (if you went looking) for better quality.
