dts vs. thx vs. 5.1...

briefly, please...what is the difference between all the different types of audio?

THX is a standard and not a format like dts or dd.

Right, THX is just a standard that equipment(speakers,receivers,DVD players ect) have to adhear to.Eqipment that is not THX certified does not mean it sounds worse than ones that are, but you are guarunted a certain level of performance that might noy be there with stuff thats not certified. I have heard recevers and such that sounded better in side by side comparisons than ones with THX. To get THX certified is expensive for the company and some just chose not to spend the money to get ceretified. DTS and DD 5.1 are sound fields that can sound quite different, or sound very similar. I prefer DTS myself but there has been an ongoing debate for years which is better. You just have to deceide with your ears. There is no right or wrong answer.
