Recording PAL to NTSC?

Hey all,

First off...I want to say that I'm starting this thread as a legitimate question and i'm NOT referencing or advocating bootlegging.
I'm curious as to what happens if you try to make a copy of a PAL DVD on an NTSC dvd recorder. If you hooked up a MALATA or whichever recorder your prefer to one of the newer recorders, would you get a copy of your recording or would there be a problem?

Just curious...i'd be interested in making backups of some of my PAL on NTSC.
