Will DVD player work with Sharp VCR ?

Going to visit friends over New Years - wondering if anyone has had favorable experience viewing DVD's by hooking up player thru a Sharp VCR. Thinking of taking my DVD player and some movies along rather than renting VHS tapes. Someone said macrovision protection might prevent normal playback. My friends are senior citizens with no home theatre setup. The VCR is a model VC-A542. Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably will not work. Most VCRs have macrovision copy protection that screws up the video signal from the DVD player.

You are better off hooking it up to the TV's inputs using a switcher is required....or an RF modulator if the set is an older/cheaper model without RCA phono jack inputs. You can get RF modulators from places like Frys or Radio Shack for about $30.
