Problem with DVD Player (Sony DVP-S530D)
I'm experiencing problems with my DVD player, and was hoping someone could offer some advice...The problem is that it doesn't like to play my movies anymore. It's been acting quirky for a while now, and seems to get progressively worse. The player is about 2 1/2 years old.
Here's what happens: I insert a DVD...the player spins up, but eventually returns a NO DISC message onscreen. It seems to happen more often with dual-layer discs vs. single layers - is this significant?
I'm not opposed to opening the player up and doing minor tweaking/spraying compressed air/stuff like that, but I'm unsure if I should pursue getting it repaired by other means. What's been anyone's experience with Sony in regard to repairs - decent turnaround time? What kind of financial damage? Or should I just start shopping for a new unit?
Thanks...

I have a DVP-S530D that had to go out to Sony for a firmware upgrade way back when it was under warranty. I sent it to a Sony Service Center in Massachusetts and had it back in about 10 days. Fortunately it was under warranty. I have had no other problems with it in the 2 1/2 years I had it.
I would suggest calling a Sony Service Center. You have the option of not getting it fixed after you send it to them if the price is too high. They will send it back to you also - you'll just be out the initial shipping fee. They will also be able to give you a good estimate on how long it will take to fix - they told me 10 to 14 days.
Good luck!
