I just purchased a Marantz SR7000 receiver. I connected it to TV, CD player, and DVD player. I've been trying for the past hour and a half to set up the receiver, but I can't get the "on screen display". I do what the manual says (1. Press the AMP button. 2. Press any of the cursor buttons to display the main menu) but nothing appears on my TV screen. The receiver menu shows "DIRCT OFF" and I have no idea what that means. Could the TV connection to the receiver be wrong? The TV is connected to the receiver through RCA A/V cables (TV out to receiver TV inputs). My dealer actually had told me that I didn't need any video cable from TV to receiver since I'm using component video cables from the DVD to the TV. I added a RCA video cable between TV and receiver since I thought that it was necessary to get the "on screen display". My dealer is closed today, so I can't call him. I'm getting pretty frustrated and the receiver manual is not very helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

Although there may be a better way, the only way I could make this work was to use the Monitor Out connection. This requires me to change the video source on my TV any time I wish to use the OSD.

Because I don't use the OSD often I am happy with this. It probably isn't the most efficient way to connect my system, but it was the easiest.

Let me know if your dealer has a better suggestion.

Rkive, thanks for your reply. I talked to my dealer and you did the right thing. If you have all video sources hooked up directly to your TV you can use a very cheap cable from Monitor out of the receiver to the TV input since that's just going to be used for the On Screen Display.

I certainly like it a lot so far. I bought a pair of B&W CDM7 NT to go with it and I think they make a very good combination, especially for classical music. The remote is very nice for a receiver in that price range, even though I'd like to be able to input discrete codes. I think I'll eventually buy a Philips Pronto.

an68, you might also want to look at the remote that came with the 8000 (it's one of the two main reasons I went with it). It is terrific.

Just bought a mountain cabin and am thinking of a 7000 for up there. That is why I asked how you like it.
