Ok - I plan to get a DVD Changer and the one I'm looking at is under 200 bucks and plays VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 as well as DVD. It's a Panasonic DVD-CV51. It's a 5 disc changer as well. Anyway - I'd like to make it region free. I've looked around and found only UK sites talking about region hacks and this model doesn't appear anywhere. I've heard legend of a disc that will render a player region free (with the right remote keypresses) and is only available to those who work on Panasonic machines.

Here's a link to a site I found some info on.
http://www.channeltechnology.com/panadiskrent.htm

It appears to work on a multitude of players (not just Panasonic) and I was wondering if it would work on this model. Also - how would I obtain such a disc? If it's a CD-R - can it be copied? Could someone have put an image of it up on the web somewhere? I could use some help here. Thanks.

The tricky thing about all region mods are they rarely ever let you watch Pal DVDs on a NTSC TV. Most region 1 DVD players don't do Pal to NTSC conversion. So getting a region mod might let you play Japanese DVDs, but not European ones.

I'm not worried so much if it will convert PAL/NTSC, I just want to know about this Panasonic disc. I have a chipped Toshiba 2109 unit and I'd like to replace it but don't want to get something that I won't be able to play me Region 3 discs on. I only have one Region 2 disc and I'm okay playing it on my PC.

I don't have the answer to your query but check this site

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/

This, again is a UK site, which gives remote hacks. You'll have to check for Panasonic Hack though. As far as I know the US models arent very successful with hacks and most are NTSC only. You could also check and ask at

http://www.leconcepts.com

This again is a UK based site, specializing in equipment with region hacks. They should be able to answer your queries.

I wanted to, earlier, pick up Panasonic RV 31, but for the same reason, ordered a Pioneer DV 535 Multi region fully modified player from Leconcepts - GBP 171 (after VAT reduction on foreign order). It can play and convert in both Pal and Ntsc.

****** Never Heard about this DISC******
