Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
Starting this thread early since some of the deals is expected to go live in a matter of hours online.
This should be quite the experience; on Monday I got my very first smartphone (yeah, I know). Getting this thing to work was a chore (not joking), but it's up and running.
The plan is to fill the blue basket with all manner of DVDs (Wal-Mart); stuff on my list and releases new to me. Once done find some nook for myself and use the phone to examine Amazon reviews on titles I'm not familiar with.
I have it set to Amazon's DVD home page as my home page.
For so many BFs, I've guessed on which new titles (to buy) - no more.
Should be quite the day. Leaving there at 4pm and staying.
A tip.
Those titles that are part of the BF sale don't always sit behind sealed cardboard shelfs, awaiting for the appointed time. You can get a step ahead.
If you have your list; go to the media area. The regular DVDs WM has for sale. See if you can find some of what you're looking for there - take it the price reader. If it's on their BF list; it's probably already discounted.
Did this last year. It works, but I could only find three on my list. It saves time regardless. And maybe you'll be lucky and find your main wants with ease.
And as corny as it sounds; go to the bathroom BEFORE the sale begins.
Happy Thanksgiving.
And happy hunting fellow members (and lurkers).

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
Happy Thanksgiving and best of luck to you JohnIan, and everyone else.
I bought a few items earlier in the week from Target. Best Buy's site was great tonight, WM's sucked, and Target's is running pretty well. Between BB & Target I really didn't need Wm though, picking up several movies I wanted, as well as many tv shows. There are a couple I haven't found, like iZombie & The 100, but overall I'm pretty well pleased just from the online shopping.
I'll wander into the stores leisurely Friday afternoon, but I think I'll be staying home today.

I have that, "Masters of Sex: Season 2" bought on street.
Enjoyed season one; haven't gotten around to watching S2 - it's on upper level of my cue.
Should be good.

Turns out I have to go to Office Depot at 6 pm for a pc monitor. I hope today's lines aren't too bad. My main monitor died today & I don't want to wait a week for delivery. OD is not doing order on line w in store pick up today.
BB is, but they want $20 more for the monitor I'm planning on getting & they're not doing BF price matching.

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
Mixed.
First off for those who ventured out today. How was it?
I was quite suprised... the lack of people. The time from me starting; going to play - to register was slightly over one minute. Nobody was in line. I get out and see the same.
Some folks walking in for the deals, but NO line.
Last year the line trailed nearly a block long. Was quite the sight, not this year. What happened?
- - -
I didn't get all the stuff on my list. I wanted to go the another WM, but I have obligations; I will do that tomorrow morning.
Missing:
Big Bang Theory: S8
Arrow: S3
Vikings: S1 - S3
The 100: S1 and S2
The Original: S2
Downton Abbey: S5
Reign: S2
I did however get just one title with messed up discs. And considering how many actual discs I have, it's a blessing. Batman: S1 needs to be rebought. Which I hope to do tomorrow - if I can find another.
Now own:
Gotham: S1
The Flash: S1
Pretty Little Liars: S5
Aquarious: S1
The Royals: S1
Black Sails: S1 & S2
Godzilla
Kingsman
Jurassic World
Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
The Lego Movie
The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug
So, how did you guys do?

Had to unexpectedly buy a monitor. At least it was a very good price! Now I'm beyond broke.

Actually I was under my budget for BF, this year. Saved up for a couple of months to blow in less than fifteen minutes.
I'll see where I am at tomorrow.
Sad fact; nothing I bought was Christmas gifts. I need to do that tomorrow too.

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
Now sorted.
Thanks for the info rmw650.
Went to two more Wal-Marts, none of them had "Big Bang Theory" S8 even though it's in their BF ad. I did however purchase more titles:
As Above So Below (with slipcover)
Lucy (with slipcover)
Dracula: Untold (with slipcover)
Wild Card (with slipcover)
Texas Rising (with slipcover)
Into The Storm
Project Almanac
Transformers: Age Of Extinction
Taken 3
300: Rise Of An Empire
Arrow: Season 3
It was quite a haul this year.
Good times and more later when I watch them.

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
Not nearly as much this year as last; with a tight budget, I'm much pickier. With that in mind, here's what I ended up with.
White Collar S5, Blacklist S2, Mad Max Fury Road (Blu ray)—Target
Big Bang Theory S8—BB
Pain & Gain—WM
Wanted Inside Out and The Pacific, too, but was skunked.

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
New question.
For those who went to Wal-Mart...
Did anybody see season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries"?
I didn't realize until now that I never bought S6. I skipped when it streeted since I couldn't at the time and told myself I would pick it up on Black Friday.
I forgot.
Or maybe it's too new. It was released on September 1, 2015; perhaps not on sale.
Update...

Was at Fark dot com and saw this comment in a BF thread.
Did others see this kind of thing - less people?

Ended up driving by a mall and a Best Buy today (forgot it was Black Friday) - and it wasn't a problem at all. 10 years ago the roads in would have been so backed up I would have quickly regretted my mistake, but this year the parking lots aren't even full.

It's supposed to be $10 in store only at Target. Target.com does allow me to place an order for in-store pickup, but not shipped.
I didn't go to Walmart.

Re: Black Thursday/Friday 2015 - Acquisitions
I wanted Empire S1 and Big Bang Theory S8 and they were advertised for $8 and $10 at both Target and Best Buy. But someone posted in the Target thread that there were very few of each advertised title in the Target displays. I went Wednesday after work to see for myself (they were already picked over), and then checked out BB. Not reassuring. Fortunately, Target deals were live online at 5 am Thursday (yay). I went browsing for other DVD sets on my wish list that were not advertised, and found some very attractive prices. Got:
Empire S1 $8 advertised
Big Bang Theory S8 $10 advertised
2 Broke Girls S4 $8
Jane the Virgin S1 $8
Masters of Sex S2 $10
Modern Family S6 $8
And then I went back to bed!

I went by my local Walmart about three hours ago to see if they still had any Black Friday discs out, and I happened to see The Vampire Diaries, Season 6 in the BF cardboard display cases. There was a sign on the cases that said something to the effect that the BF discs would be on sale until they were gone, but I really, truly doubt that.
Having said that, it WAS there, for $9.96.
I went mainly to see if I could find a 3D copy of Mad Max: Fury Road. I did, eventually, in the Electronics department, stuck at the back of a handful of copies of the 2D version. It still rang up at $9.96, so you may have a shot at finding The Vampire Diaries at that price if you head out to look tonight.
Good luck with your hunt!

It arrived yesterday.
Discs and packaging, mint.
I is happy.
And with that; Black Friday 2015 closes for me.
