Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

I almost bit at that price... Till I learned of the Blu-ray set... Only issue is the BR is not available in the US yet & is incredibly expensive to import... Which almost influenced me to buy the DVD set anyway... Except in a review they explained the BR set has many of the episodes & movies in their original wide screen scope instead of cropped 4x3....

Yeah, that BD import is super pricey and never coming down in price.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Everything that I don't desperately want does come down in price! (You're in luck, Columbo is NOT on my want list!)

Actually it really sucks to be a cd/dvd retailer. Inflation is rampant (despite the media's lies about it) EXCEPT with cd's & dvd's where there is no profit left. Don't know about where you live, but in Western Wa, the price of all meat except Chicken has literally doubled in about the last 6 months. And even chicken wings have gone from aprox $1.99 to aprox $3.69 lb in the same time period. 3 other 3 chicken parts have probably only gone up around 25% here (actually going up 25% in 6 months is pretty severe inflation!)

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Basic food essentials are basically going through the roof, as the BRIC countries have rising middle classes that now demand the same kind of foods we eat in the developed world. It has put severe constraints on our natural food production resources, driving the price up for everybody. The government largely excludes goods most sensitive to inflationary pressures in their CPI measures, as a bit of political handwaving. Almonds and pecans go up practically every time I check them now.

My Will Rogers V1 shipped. V2 still hasn't. Got lucky, no sales tax except on the cd, & no shipping on anything.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

I got both of the Will Rogers boxes. On the + side, kudos to Amazon for shipping them both separately & with priority mail at no charge!

On the - side; so far I've watched the documentary, 1 full movie & 1/2 of another:

I have GOT to get over my SICKNESS of buying any classic film with a severe mark down. Some of them just aren't very good..............

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Is this worth a blind buy @ $20.10?

The Samuel Fuller Film Collection (It Happened in Hollywood / Adventure in Sahara / Power of the Press / The Crimson Kimono / Shockproof / Scandal Sheet / Underworld U.S.A.)

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Moo - regarding the Fuller set, as a Fuller fan, I'd jump on it, although (full disclosure) I haven't delved far into it yet. UNDERWORLD USA is a pretty solid film, though. Half of these are merely written by Fuller, but directed by Douglas Sirk, who is worthy of his own set like this. So if you're any kind of fan of either Sirk or Fuller, this is probably worth having around, on general principle. These older deep catalog won't be own able for much longer, once supplies like this dry up.

It is one of my favorite of the sony classic boxsets. Underworld USA and Crimson Kimono are excellent.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Price has slightly dropped. Since I'm in a sales tax state & don't have Prime I ordered from a 3rd party "FBA" for $19.98 Total. Thanks for the feedback!

Glenn, sorry I missed it for 5 days. Most boards make it easy to tell when one has a new pm. This board doesn't make it real obvious unless you remember to look; so I tend to miss them. I have replied!

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread

Thanks, Geff. And also thanks for the SAM FULLER deal alert. I'm not the biggest Fuller fan and most of the titles in that collection are single layer without extras or extras that don't really interest me. I'm still tempted on it, but will probably pass.

The Addams Family is at a low of $23.49.

I might have to pick it up as this was one of my favorite shows growing up. Wasn't a Munsters fan but loved The Addams Family.

Or buy them at FoxConnect sale for 65 for the series and movies on blu-ray. Probably be even cheaper during the BF week sale.

24: The Complete Series, which also includes Live Another Day is only $69.99

That's a good deal if you don't mind buying DVD.

The 35th Anniversary edition of I, Claudius is $21.99, a new low I believe.
