Ray Harryhausen Collectible Dvd Gift Set (with Ymir figurine) - $24.99

Out of print if I'm not mistaken. The upc may be defaced. The store I went to had three boxes sitting on top of the dvd shelves. The boxes are big so they're not likely to be on the shelves.

Two discs from Cheezy Flicks:

Day of the Triffids $4.99
Frauleins in Uniform $5.99

There were about 5-6 copies of each on the shelves.

They've had those here for about month. Are any of them any good?

Are we talking about the old Shout! Factory Elvira DVDs or the more recent E1 DVDs?

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Half Price Books is having a "Booklover's Weekend" from Feb. 15th - 18th. They suggest that interested people sign up for their email list for a special coupon that will be sent out via email on the 14th (and will be usable the the 15th-18th).

Here's the posting about in on HPB's blog, it has a link for their email list.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Saw a bunch of DVD Tees! (thin pak dvd with tee shirt). They were all under $10. Titles included:

The Alpha Incident
Assignment: Outer Space
Atom Age Vampire
Indestructible Man
Atomic Brain
Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon

And some others I can't remember (YMMV).

Also, there's a bunch of Doctor Who/Torchwood BBC Audio Books available. They've been out at least at week, maybe longer. The amount of over lap seems to vary per store. I've found them on end cap displays and mixed in with the rest of the audio books. There's a bunch of Terrence Dick episode novelizations, stuff like Castrovalva, The Silurians, Inferno, etc...(I'm pretty sure they're $5.99), but I have those on dvd so I'm not interested. I do have a list of the other audio books I've picked up:

Tales from the Tardis $3.99
The Ring of Steel (11 & Amy) $3.99
The Gemini Contagion (11 & Amy) $3.99
Wooden Heart (10 & Martha) $5.99
Peacemaker (10 & Martha) $5.99
The Last Dodo (10 & Martha) $5.99
Peacemaker (10 & Martha) $5.99
Sting of the Zygons (10 & Martha) $5.99
The Story of Martha (10 & Martha) $5.99
The Wishing Well (10 & Martha) $5.99
The Resurrection Casket (10 & Rose) $5.99
The Art of Destruction (10 & Rose) $5.99
The Nightmare of Black Island (10 & Rose) $5.99
The Price of Paradise (10 & Rose) $5.99
The Feast of the Drowned (10 & Rose) $5.99
Ghosts of India (10 & Donna) $5.99
Doctor Who: New Adventures (Martha in the Mirror, Snowglobe 7, The Many Hands) (10 & Martha) $9.99
Hornets' Nest: 1. The Stuff of Nightmares (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Hornets' Nest: 2. The Dead Shoes (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Hornets' Nest: 3. The Circus of Doom (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Hornets' Nest: 5. Hive of Horror (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Demon Quest: 1. The Relics of Time (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Demon Quest: 2. The Demon of Paris (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Demon Quest: 3. A Shard of Ice (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Demon Quest: 5. Sepulchre (4 & Mike Yates) $3.99
Torchwood: Slow Decay $5.99

I've got a bunch of other Torchwood titles on hold. I'll add them when I get them this weekend. I still hope to trip over #4 Hornets' Nest and #4 Demon Quest, but I have a suspicion they're in the gap. I'm hitting another Half price tomorrow. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Those DVD Tees are actually better quality Ts than you might imagine. I expected them to be paper thin but they aren't and the graphics have held up to many washes already.

I actually bought mine for the shirt, kept the thinpak case and chucked the disc/art!

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

HPB by me had the T-DVD's also. One that MAY be of interest to some: The Lost World is the 62 minute version, which also happens to be the time of the Eastman House Restoration which is the best looking edition I've seen.

I'm not saying this IS the Eastman restoration, but it might be.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Haven't been to a HPB in almost 10 years, but did find multiples of:

The Captain & Tennille - Ultimate Collection (3 DVD Set) (1976) - 4.99
http://www.amazon.com/Captain-Tennil...n+and+tennille
Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp (Authorized Edition) - 7.99
http://www.amazon.com/Lancelot-Link-...=lancelot+link

Both of which I picked up. Their prices are high on most things, but there are some decent deals.

I'm thinking of trading in some old Brain damage Horror (brand new). Does anyone have any idea what they might give me for them?

That Lancelot Link set is a great deal. It was released less than a year ago and Amazon has been selling it for around $17.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Last time I checked, they pay almost nothing for every & any thing. (.10-.25 an an item). That may have increased, no one I personally know has sold to them in a long time.

Don't even bother wasting your time trying to get anything for your stuff there as they're horrible when it comes to paying out for stuff. Tried to trade a PS3 video game about two weeks ago and they would only offer me a quarter for it and I just said hell no and walked out. Same goes with books and stuff. Just try Ebay or Craigslist as you might be able to get a better deal that way. Nothing too great about that store whatsoever.

That's what I was afraid of. I argued with the guy who does the buying for over 5 minutes trying to get him to give me a ballpark figure. I finally pulled out a copy of Kingpin that I had just bought (in pristine condition BTW. It was $3.99, but it is OOP). Anyway, I asked him to tell me what he'd give me for that and he said a buck. Was probably lying.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

Personally, I find HPB valuable for obtaining the same type of extra stock/remainders that I found Big Lots valuable for. I have gotten some very good deals at HPB, but I rarely buy anything used. As far as their second hand items, I can't really blame them. They seem to have plenty of that type of stuff, and so I guess a lot of people view it as someplace to take things that they might otherwise throw away.

I don't blame them for not wanting to give me much. The problem I had was that I didn't want to go to the trouble to get a bunch of DVDs together and then him lowball me. I could use the DVDs for U&S in that case or throw them away myself.

I might have to stop by there a little more often. They are more akind to the old Ross in my opinion. Their deals are not great, but good enough. (I guess that is like Big Lots NOW)

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

New Warner classics batch at hpb. Sorry, I'm no good at writing down titles. It was all stuff that Big Lots USED to get except Sierra Madre, & the big box of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which Grocery Outlet has $5 cheaper (10 vs $15). In all cases, HPB is charging quite a bit more than BL's $3 or even $5.

Re: Half Price Books - New DVD Thread

They have remainders of a movie on my wish list.
I was able to get the 2 Disc collector's edition of Peter Fonda's "The Hired Hand" for 6.99.
