Are you certain? Both Ebay AND Amazon show English language on their "stock photos" where the Big Lots dvd had Russian. The photograph on the dvd cover also looks like it was printed with a cheap ink jet.

Go to amazon where the widescreen copy is somebody posted a copy of the disk as one of the photos under the product. It was done as a joke by the producers of the product.

Here's photos of mine:
if you're correct (& I did see the burned disc photos) ebay & Amazon need to get corrected stock photos. Ebay frequently messes up, but it's rare for Amazon!

I think there is various versions of the cover art as well. I've read of people who sold it who had troubles convincing the buyers it was real. And somebody tried to trade it in at best buy and he had to show them photos online to prove the disk was real.

What you're saying makes sense, but STUPID marketing. Anyone like me who isn't aware of the in joke, would logically assume it's a bootleg & blame the retailer. Since many people use Amazon to check stuff, sure would be nice if they had these covers up if they are indeed legit.

I was at the Sterling, VA store tonight and they added a new cardboard display with mostly all new stock including most of what MrBob already listed earlier. It's away from the regular wire racks more near the center of the store.

Here's what I grabbed:

$3
Adios, Sabata [Yul Brynner]
The Fantastiks SE [Michael Ritchie]
Dark Blue SE [Ron Shelton/Kurt Russell]
We Live Again [Fredric March/Preston Sturges]
Journey to the Center of the Earth [Cannon, 1988]
Alexander the Great [Richard Burton/Fredric March]
Erik the Viking [The Director's Son's Cut]
Hendrix [Billy Zane]
Vicky Christina Barcelona [Woody Allen/Scarlett Johansson]

Tried to return the Borat tonight. The ast. manager's response took me by surprise (especially as he knows me well) This is a paraphrase: "because it does look like a bootleg, only the store manager can authorize an exchange".

Exqueeze me????! Because it looks like a bootleg & i bought it from you is the reason for the return! And I wasn't asking for a refund, just another lousy $3 dvd!

Ask them to open the new one there. It'll look the same and they'll then know when the next person brings one in.

If you're returning *just* because the packaging looks suspect you may be interested in this review from Amazon:

"But let me say that when I got my Borat DVD in the mail today...I was a little confused. I opened the package, and found a DVD covered by your usual sleeve promoting its highlights like any other you might buy in the US. Then, I eagerly slipped the plastic-covered DVD out of the sleeve, turned it over to read the back, started reading and wait... what? or rather, CHTO? because the entire DVD cover is in Russian.

Now, I read Russian. And I have purchased pirated DVDs for $2 at Moscow metro stations because that is pretty much what you do when you're in Russia. So the fact that I examined this DVD case for a good 5 minutes, opened it to find what looks like a DVD-R disc with "Borat" labeled in permanent marker and seriously considered the possibility that somehow a pirated DVD had been sent by Amazon... finally, of course, I realized that the whole thing was a joke. Possibly even funnier to me than any single joke in the film. The giveaway was the single slip of paper inside promoting more films you can buy from the US and A that are legal in kazakhstan...

Anyway. Now all I have to do is go to Russia and purchase an ACTUAL pirated version to compare!

The DVD should be purchased for the uncanny packaging alone, but I guess I have ruined the surprise... "

That is typical for this DVD and has caused lots of returns. Clever packaging that's *too* clever. You *should* find a very small copyright notice somewhere close to the center hole where the WS or FS designation is located. These were done "normally" rather than in a font which looks like a marker giving the DVD that bootleg look.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Found a new $3 and $5 waterfall display at Sanford FL (17/92 and Lake Mary Blvd). I guess different stores are getting different mixes. Would have purchased the Burton Alexander the Great and Adios, Sabata among others if I had seen them. Going back today for Dark Blue. I could have sworn I owned that DVD, but can't find it anywhere. I did pick up for $3 each:

One More Time: Sammy Davis Jr and Peter Lawford
The Package: Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones
The Way Back: Ed Harris and Colin Ferrell Seems like I just read a review of this movie a few weeks ago in EW

The $5 bin always puzzles me. It's one thing to sell older movies that have only recently been released on DVD for $5, but why are titles like The Blues Brothers and Johnny Mneumonic that have been around forever still offered for $5?

If it was still sealed with their sticker on it then that is a bit jaw dropping. I'd pitch a fit if it cost more but $3 isn't worth the trouble.

You bought it last year. You shouldn't be able to return it anyways.

Saw the new display at the local BL yesterday (in conjunction with the same square wire rack they've always had). With the exception of a couple DVDs I hadn't seen before, it looks like they just transferred the DVDs from the old floor-standing display to this one. Wasn't impressed. -kd5-

Bridgeport Tacoma WA: Unless you're in the market for the 40's & 50's Warner Mexican films that have been turning up over the last couple years, they have very little. Nothing from the reported new batches.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Saw this film mentioned above....Champagne for Caesar (Ronald Colman)Ronald Colman is an All knowing(know it all) who has a hard time keeping a job. He finally decides to go an a TV game show, and he is never is wrong. (The Ken Jennings of the 50s) It also stars Vincent Price, in a wonderfully hammy performance as the sorta evil, New-Age-y head of a TV network. The film was what is now called an "indy" film, (back then, a small budget film from a tiny production company) but this comedy is well worth grabbing for $3!!!

Ok, as for Big Lots of Late on the southsided of the ATL. Unless you are interested in $5 James Bond films, The Stockbridge store(low on stock as I have ever seen) and Riverdale(never has much) are wastes of time.
Fayetteville FINALLY got some decent stuff. They got the 6 foot tall cardboard dump, and some of the newer films have been sprinkled around. Found a Plastic Man(YAY!) but no more there. Had films like the Believers with Martin Sheen...hmmm. looked at so much the last few days(was there Thurs) crap...what a memory. I know what I grabbed that I don't think are there any more. War Gods of the Deep(vincent Price MGM DVD) Meeting at Midnight(Monogram Charlie Chan AKA Black Magic) Oh, I did see some of those Ben 10 DVDs, different shows/films, whatever they are. At least stuff that hasn't been there forever and a day. Oh, Season two of Family Ties, $10 and 2 of Dynasty S4 V2. That was Thursday.
