Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

I'd like a Lexx S2, but none of the Target's in my area have a $5 section of TV shows, and strangely, S2 seems to be the only one not available on their website. Congrats to those who have found it. S1, which I got from K-Mart, was a bit odd (imo), but I'm still interested in seeing what happens next. I'll probably order from Amazon, but it seems that there have been several versions released. Does anyone know which is the best version?

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

I paid a LOT for my seasons of Lexx years ago. Well, S1 wasn't released in a box set. I actually had to import the 4 individual movies from Canada. The other box sets I bought at Suncoast for my left arm. Granted, the releases I own are much better than the Echo Bridge ones, but still...

The show changes a lot starting in S2. The lead girl is replaced, and they become actual episodes instead of movies. It gets much better, IMO, but I did enjoy the S1 movies.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

They needed to do more research before publishing that article. DVDs are manufactured a bit differently than CDs. On a CD the data/emulsion layer is just under the silk screened/printed label which has a layer of epoxy applied to seal the disk. This can make it more prone to injury either from scuffing/scratching or chemicals from inks as the print and epoxy layers are very thin and somewhat fragile. For this reason you should *never* store a CD with the label side down as it's the more damage prone side. Most people are unaware of this and think the underside is the one to protect. You can buff out scratches on the "play" side but scratch the label side and you have a potential coaster depending on where the scratch is located.

On a DVD the data/emulsion layer(s) are *between* layers of polycarbonate (i.e. 2 pieces of plastic) and are *not* affected by permanent markers (unless it can burn through a thin layer of plastic - if that happens you have more to worry about than a ruined disk). You can scratch the label side of a DVD, use solvents (as long as they don't directly attack and melt the plastic), write on it, etc. with no problems.

Hope that helps.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

They've also got an assorted set of History Channel shows on dvd.

Several Pawn Stars dvd sets, American Pickers, Ancient Aliens, and the only one I bought: Swamp People Season 1.

^Those are all $5 each? I'd pick up Ancient Aliens at that price.

That's the one I bought. Never saw it on TV, but seems right up my alley.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

^The few episodes I've seen on History Channel are the typical HC production. Sketchy, if any, true history, lots of repeat info to make the program fill the slot, "experts", CGI, *lots* of speculation, but they *are* fun to watch. It also helps if you believe Earth *has* been visited at some point in time. $5 for a season is cheap enough to warrant a purchase just for fun.

My favorite part is when the "experts" have Masters, J.D.s, and PhDs in areas that couldn't have less to do with anything associated with this "alien astronaut" theory.

Picked up Starhunters, Lexx Season 1 & 2, and Due South Season 1,2,3. Thanks for the heads up, great deal.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

I already have some of these $5 titles. I especially like Due South--delightful Canuck cop dramedy pretending to take place in Chicago. (One of the great Paul Haggis' early creations.) $15 for the whole series? Jump on it. I have several of History Channel titles, too. Just picked up Lexx 2 and Pacific Blue 1.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

yay, can't wait for Lexx Season 2. i liked the "season 1"/movies and the only versions of the other seasons seem to be OOP. $5 is a no-brainer.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

picked up:
Lexx S2 (got S1 sometime back)
Mercy complete series
Ancient Aliens S1

Also saw:
Pawn Stars (Target exclusive with 17 eps from S2 only -- almost a whole set WTF)
Starhunters (prev. bought)
Due South 1,2,3
Life S1 (again)
Pacific Blue S1

These were not at my local Target, but at another one that seems to carry the TV sets (they've had them exclusively before in my area(. A Different Target seems to get the rarere 5.00 BDs. and my local Target had some $2 Mill Creek DVDs no one else seemed to have got. Go figure.

I don't know why I never heard of this show, but I found Season 1 and Season 2 for $5 at my local target last night. I got the last copy of S1 but they had one more S2. S1 is over 6 hours and S2 is 16 hours (20 episodes- that works out to .25/episode!) Ridiculously cheap. Thanks O.P.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

I picked up Season two of Grounded for Life for $4.75, but the quality is so bad, I'm getting rid of it and looking for the original releases.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

Fwiw, all of these appear to be on sale for $4.75, didn't read the tag for the time frame, but at least all this week I imagine.

Picked up Lexx and Due South, because 400 unwatched TV seasons aren't enough for me.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

Wish I hadn't imported Lexx S2 from Canada.

S3 and 4 are still available there for those looking to complete the series. Though, now that I look, I guess there is a 3&4 set here that must be from the same people that put out the cheap Target sets.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

The Target's by me seem to have just started up this section. Everything was on sale for $4.75 too.

I had recently picked up the Lexx S2 import also. But that release is supposed to be better than this one, which is Echo Bridge. Echo Bridge is also the one that put out the newest S3, S4 and S3 & 4 sets.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

i've checked several Target's in the area and none of them have these deals yet. Maybe they'll add these displays over the weekend.

Re: Target $5 tv series on dvd

I don't think it has been mentioned but my store has Ancient Aliens Ssn. 1 for $5, I want to get it each time but I will wait until I get the Blu-ray version (which is not bad on Amazon right now).
