re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

B & N's discontinuation of the online members 10% off will hurt though, especially since buying in stores eliminates Bing, dramatically decreases selection, and is obviously a much bigger hassle than shopping online.

But in stores, you can use the $5 off coupons.

On a $40 title, it works out to be $20 - $2 (member discount) - $5 = $13 for a brand new Criterion DVD or Blu-ray. Not tooooo shabby!

Do we know for a fact there will be $5 coupons again this year? And as far as using multiple coupons, there is a big-time YMMV attached.

Let's hope this is a late July sale. The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus would like to enter my collection sooner than later.

Yes there will be $5 coupons when the sale starts in July. I found a new one late last week that does not expire until July 26. I estimate a second one should arrive right around the start of July. It doesn't appear they are going away yet. Unfortunately with store coupons it is ymmv. but overall I believe more people have had success with them. A few times I have had problems with the $5 coupons, but after arguing with cashiers and managers was able to use them.

I never had a problem with the $5 coupons. I don't try to use a bunch at one time, but 1-3 works fine. They will ring up multiple orders if needed.

Just be cool and spread out your visits.

Never had a cashier so much as blink at the $5 off coupon. Although, I only try one per visit.

Wait what? When is this happening and I mean, why do they think anyone would ever renew without this?

It happened on April 30 to members. In exchange for unlimited free shipping they yanked the online 10% member discount. You still get the 10% discount at stores, but everyone now gets the same online price. The only difference with a membership online are some exclusive coupons and the new free shipping. However the free shipping is really not much of a benefit for members since you can get it without paying $25. Read the discussion in the B&N coupon thread for more information on the membership changes.

Then they should just make the membership free because there is little reason to renew, at least for me.

Oh, well, at least we're still getting the half off Criterion sale!

Great news for me since my membership ends on 7/31. And since they instituted the new changes I have no interest in renewing. $13 criterions and $8 here I come.

Yeah same here, I think I was the first here to try using it on the first sale. I've used dozens (much to the dismay of some here who were offended by it) & I never had a single problem.

Glad to here it seems to be official for a July sale. Gonna buy every Blu-Criterion that has been released since the last sale.

Really? I skimmed through this thread, but didn't see anything about July.

If that's the case, I need to watch everything I purchased during the last two sales...

I don't think I've watched anything yet that I've purchased in the November sale.
I probably dropped at least $200 there too.

Dorky, I know, but I actually really enjoy the ritual of speed-walking from one B&N to the other, iPod blaring, anticipating the next store's Criterion selection.
Hahahaha....and I thought I was the only one.

Nothing was more frustrating though when I'd have one store be really cool with the coupon then need to argue with the next cashier and lit. read them the coupon to indicate that it was legit and applicable (I resorted to highlighting the pertinent information).

Other than 8 1/2, I've been holding off on buying any Criterion BDs in anticipation of the next sale.
