Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

my gf said the movies I bought were 3.95 early this morning:

Troy, Diehard, O 11 and 12, Wedding Crashers, Phantom of Opera, Last Samurai, Raging Bull, American History, etc. By far the best dvd promo. Promo price 'til they sell all of them. GL.

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

I stopped in at a walmart on my way home from work tonight and wasnt expecting to find much left in the way of $2 dvds, but actually found some still there that looked descent. I picked up - a western called "appaloosa", the "guy ritchie" action/comedy "rock n rolla", and the sequal to "van wilder" which I just picked up for completest purposes. all were in widescreen. there were other good titles left which I already own, like "shoot em up" which is a great over the top action flick, and others that I prob would have picked up if they were in widescreen. I would say that walmart got a really good batch of $2 dvds this year. they even had copies of "borat" in widescreen for $2

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

The Wal Mart I went to didn't have the Underworld pair, the main reason I went. But picked up-
Hellboy II (funny all the other chains that have it special as well, but more $$ and not 3 disc)
Princess Bride 20th
Speed Racer
Mr. Brooks
True Lies
Only thing I didn't like, a lot of them were eco cases, w/o inserts...

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

I don't know how but we got screwed over down here. The $2 dvds were $3.20 (per the ad) and the blu-rays were $14, which is a ripoff compared to everyone else selling them from $8-$10. I didn't buy a damn thing at Wal-mart.

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

We hadn't even planned on going to Walmart, but tonight we needed some things to go with our leftovers for dinner so we ran in anyway. It was pretty picked over, but my wife decided we needed The Departed and Wedding Crashers on Blu Ray for $10 apiece. It didn't take much to get me to sign off on those acquisitions. We were also astounded to see, at 6:00 at night, entire pallets of Blu Ray players still there. Although, I would like to ask Walmart why, if they are in fact getting behind the format, they have yet to really dedicate any meaningful shelf space to BD titles. I can't even buy Quantum of Solace at my local WM because they quit stocking it months ago (before we made the format jump).

Yup, we got screwed in Hawaii too, though it was to be expected here. $3.20 for the DVD's, and $14 for Blu-rays. It pissed me off because I found and scanned Casino Royale and Coraline, and they both came up at $14. Would've been $10 at everyone else's Walmart's sale price.

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

The Walmart I stopped at in Wisconsin (I was on my way from Michigan to Minnesota yesterday) had those screwy prices for DVDs and BDs too. However I told the guy at the register that they were cheaper in the ad in Michigan and he price-matched the $10.00 BD price for me with no problem, so I was able to get "Casino Royale" for $10 to match my $10 "Quantum of Solace" from Amazon.

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

I realized I needed a few things, which I could have gotten at stores earlier, but didn't think about at all (like soap, contact solution). Guess I had tunnel-vision for the Black Friday deals. Anyway, I stopped into Walmart last night at about 10:30 PM and grabbed the following for $2 each:

American History X
Troy
A History of Violence
Phantom of the Opera

Just in time, too, because they were moving the pallets away.

Every national walmart ad says "prices may be higher in alaska, hawaii, oklahoma, and wisconsin". oklahoma may have a "cannot take a loss" law on the books. consult an attorney for a free evaluation on monday

Yup, Wisconsin has a Minimum markup law which pretty much made all the dvd's 3.20 here.. luckily I live close enough to Illinois and we went and got the 2 dollar and 5 dollar dvd's. Awesome.

Between online and in the stores these past few days I think i've grabbed over 50 titles.

Thats the first time i've ever heard that.. Must be from you foreigners! lol

nevertheless.. it does suck to be in a state that loves to raise taxes.... but i'll save that one for another discussion!

Just saw the 4.95 movies at Buy.com. Lots are the 2 dollar movies I got from Walmart.. but some are ones I hadn't seen elsewhere yet! I think i've already spent too much tho! Dilema

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

My wife and I got to our local Wal-Mart early (4am) and they already had the DVDs unwrapped. I stuck to $2 selections and managed to get:

Blazing Saddles
Borat
Hellboy II
I Am Legend
Meet The Spartans
Mr. Woodcock
Rescue Dawn
Running Scared
Semi-Pro
Stomp The Yard
The Marine
Trapped In Paradise

Lots of other good widescreen DVDs but I already had them in my collection. I got everything I wanted except for "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" -- my store didn't have that one. I passed up "Casino Royale" and several others since they weren't in widescreen.

I wish people would stop buying fullscreen DVDs so the format would DIE! I hate having to pass up a DVD deal because it's in fullscreen. I saw numerous people buying widescreen TVs and then indiscriminately grabbing DVDs. When they get home they'll be like "WTH, I bought a widescreen TV, why do I now have black bars down the sides?"

Later!

Re: Wal Mart came through with 2.00 dvds:

^But that's why most of the titles were $2. These were mostly FS that they can't unload as easily any more.

And they'll not see any black bars down the side because the vast majority of WM WS buyers have the TV set to stretch a 4x3 and any non-native 16x9 image to fill the screen. Just pay some of my inlaws a visit if you want to see this in action. They'll claim they don't see the difference (and one is an artist/graphic designer)!

See I did not know this, nor did I see that in the ad. Granted, I wasn't looking for it so yeah. Doesn't really matter since amazon matched the would-be-prices and Target made up for the rest. I'm sure as hell not going to pay $14 for The Departed BD when it's $8 next door.

The Mummy was the one I wanted and couldn't get as well - so much so I went back a few hours later to see if perhaps some misplaced copies had surfaced. Since I didn't hit the store until 10 am I thought perhaps maybe they had sold out quickly but if you were there for the opening and didn't get it, it seems more likely several stores didn't get this 2-disc set which probably cost WM more and was in limited quantity.

Hate to hear that since I had hoped to hit a couple of WMs in the next town this weekend to see if they had anything I missed. I know at least locally in the past WM kept those Black Friday prices for the "Promo" DVDS until they sold out and you could find some a week or later but then in the past their $2 dvds were usually just a few titles, usually not particularly good, and the $5 ones not so recent. I guess if they're losing money on each DVD at the BF price as this thread suggests I can see why they jumped back up this time.

I managed to score the only 3 that I really wanted to get; Mummy 3 (2-disc), Underworld Evolution WS, and Blazing Saddles 30th Anniversary Edition.
