Well if this is true you have two options. A)Pre-order it online. B)Pre-order it in-store and have it shipped to home. (This way you pay on the day you order, thus making it eligible for the sale)

What are the details of the membership again?

Not that I'll have the cash for all of it, but there are several titles I'd love to pick up:

Repulsion blu
Chungking Express blu
Bottle Rocket blu
Last Year at Marienbad blu
Pierrot Le Fou blu
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
My Dinner with Andre

Thanks!

Anyone have any experience with getting a refund if you cancel your membership within the first month.

Unfortunately, I cancelled mine 2 days ago before I heard of this sale because I was very unimpressed with the coupons and other "deals" they had. I was 28 days in so I called the number, clicked a few numbers on my phone, talked to a CS rep, told them I didn't feel it was worth it for me considering my buying practices and told them I wanted to cancel. She asked my name and address and walked me through some sort of paperwork they have to do and that was it. 5 minutes total.

They havn't credited my account for the $25 yet, but Im not too worried about it yet.

$25 a year. There is an option to have it not automatically renew every year, so it can be a 1-time thing if you just want to keep it for a year.

The membership gives you 10% off pretty much everything they sell (including already-discounted items) other than electronics, and you get access to member-only coupons that are always available (such as the $5 coupon in the op).

For the most part, B&N is not very good for DVD/Blu-Ray deals. However, they always have a different sale running, and those sales always contain a few amazing deals. My membership has paid for itself at least a dozen times over with all the money I have saved on Criterions and various other Blu-Rays. For example, they were just running a 50% off select Blu-Ray/DVD sale where, after the member discount and $5 coupon, a few dozen different Blu-Rays came out to $6-8 each. I picked up Dogma for $8, The Universe season 1-2 for about $10 less than Amazon, and The Shield seasons 6-7 for about $20 less than Amazon.

It's definitely worthwhile to keep your membership for the sales that pop up every now and again. Look at it this way - if you buy 4 Criterions at $13 each (after member discount and member coupon), the membership will have paid for itself.

I joined up just to take advantage of this sale the last time around. I went to two stores, the first never heard of a 30-day trial. Not the cashier nor the manager (!!!). I had to point out to her on the sign up it states it there and on the website. Unfortunately I needed the receipt, which I did not have on me at the time since I figured they'd still have it on their computer, stores like Best Buy you do not need a receipt if you bought it with a credit card and it shows up on their computer.

I moved and relocated that same day. It worked without any questions at all. The cashier never heard of it, asked the manager if they had a trial, he said yes and did his thing, printed out the receipt showing the refund and I kicked my heals out the door.

Sale will occur online and in-store, but you can get them cheaper in-store than you can online if you are a B&N member.
...
It 's worth noting that during the last sale some stores I visited only put some selected titles on sales, so YMMV.

During the last sale pre-ordered titles (e.g., The Human Condition) did not qualify for the 50% off.

At the multiple stores I visited, only some of the Criterions had the 50% off stickers, but every Criterion rang up at 50% off.

Does it matter what order they do the discounts in? After the 10% membership discount the disc is $18 but the coupon states it's for a minimum of a $20 purchase.
As stated a few posts above yours, the $20 minimum is before any discounts.

Fwiw, I bought all (3 or 4 iirc) of their $20 releases last sale for $4 each.

It's going to get annoying having to explain this dozens of times. Just read the thread, man.

By the way:

The Third Man Blu-Ray is now out of stock on Amazon, which means it's gonna start rapidly disappearing everywhere else now. I wouldn't hold out hope that you'll still be able to find it at B&N by the time the Criterion sale rolls around, so snag it now while you still can.

Time to update my Criterion list again.

The way I like to work this sale is to buy DVDs in cardboard packaging in the store, and order the one in keepcases online.

I wonder is there is a list somewhere of which titles are in digipacks?

So I signed up as a B&N member the last time they had this sale and have cancelled it since. Will I qualify to sign up for it again and still get out within 30 days?

I would imagine, but you may end up on 'a list' and not be accepted next time you apply.

Not sure my conscious would really allow that...

Digipacks (at least from my experience, most of these are bd):

Third Man (BD)
The Last Metro (BD)
Last Year in Marienbad (BD)
Chungking Express (BD)
Bottle Rocket (BD)

Feel free to add to the list as I'm sure I missed some.

Last time I picked up

Complete Monterey Pop
The Blob
M
The Third Man

and paid 11.95 shipping to Canada - They even split the order up according to availability and didn't charge extra

Oy, my aching wallet! Still, I'll be able to buy the Mizoguchi box and the Nikkatsu Noir box, which was released just after the last B&N sale, and Salesman, which I could not find in stores or online during the last sale.

Damn it! My Wings of Desire Blu-Ray just shipped before I could cancel it.

No, everyone gets 50% off.

But members get an extra 10% off (the discounted price, so really only an extra 5%), and get more coupons, like the shown $5 one.

Thanks. I thought so, but got confused. So, when will BN actually announce the sale?

Probably when it starts? I dunno, they're not really in the habit of "announcing" sales until they actually occur. It's definitely happening though.
