It's a better deal if you get 5 for 20!! You don't get it? It's even a better deal if you get 10 DVDs for $40!!!!

I'll go later in the week and see if they are down to 2.99. There isn't much there I still want but I'll probably keep an eye on it anyway.

I checked all of the discs and they are in like new condition. Shipping from an Amazon storefront is 2.98.

My store says 80% but I think they were changing it to a higher % when I was there because they changed it from 5$ to 4$ when I was there.

What I really want is to be there when they have dvd's in cases for something like 1.99. I would just buy indiscriminately and try to resell them to somewhere I know.
I went back here and they were still 3.99. I bought Julia, Days and Clouds, The Killing Room, and Rain in the Mountains. I am happy with my haul. I watched Good Dick this week and absolutely loved it. The more of these dvd's I don't want to sell to the used dvd shop the better I did cost wise. I'll know in a month or two how good I did.

The Sterling store still is at $3.99, and lousy blu-ray pricing new and used. They were extended to January 10th they say, so I'll check back again after the 1st.

TV seasons are $9.99, which is a good deal, but some are shrinkwrapped sets from other stores and as such, you can't check them for scratches. Used games are 30% off and there are some good deals, especially since their regular used prices can be really good at times (for example, they had Street Fighter IV for PS3 for $10.49 after the discount). Electronics are 60% off since there's almost nothing left. They had a few floor models, some cables, and 2 Archos Gen 5 DVR Stations for $20 each. I got the last Archos 605 WiFi before Thanksgiving for $70. If you come across an Archos at a closing store, it'll be $40 and I recommend you get it (though for whatever reason, the capacity isn't listed on the box and Blockbusters have been known to stock both 4GB SSD units w/ SD card slots and 30GB HDD units; mine was 30GB).
Thanks for the heads up on this one. I drive by it 5 times a week and had no idea it was closing. I must have missed the giant "store closing" signs.

There's only a few new DVD's and a few TV shows left but there are boat loads of previously viewed DVD's.

There's a small sampling of PV Blu-Rays (2 for 25 or $16 each) and there are a fair amount of new Blu Rays but at the $26 price tag it's still too much. I was close to picking up their last copy of Interview with the Vampire but realized that I could easily find it online for cheaper.

PVDs were $4 each and TV shows are $8 each. I picked up Firefly, a new copy of Southland Tales and about 7 PVDs and it was just about $50. Not too bad. Now I just need real DVD cases and I'll be all set.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

For anyone still waiting on price-drops, my suggestion is to wait!

I made the mistake of starting early last year when titles were still $10. I went back when they were $8, $5, $4, $2, $1 and even lower.

Surprisingly, most of the 'big titles' will stay until the end - a lot of the single-copy titles will remain until the $2 day (some further, but it's pushing it). Nothing worse than paying $10 for titles then seeing it for $1! On the final day of the BB closing here last week, they had dozens of copies of new movies (some were stored in boxes in the back, and they "re-stocked" as ones on the shelf sold). The Wrestler, Notorious, Observe & Report, Milk, Last house of the left, etc.. had a ton of copies left when they hit $1.00.

If you don't mind spending more (If you see a hard-to-find-cheap movie (one copy) for $5-10, it might be worth picking it up) - for the rest i'd suggest waiting. I spent probably $400 on titles last year when they were still $5.. I spent about 75 this year and got close to 100 movies.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

Just grabbed "Ladies & Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains" for $4 for my sister. She got a bootleg years ago at Dragoncon and neither of us knew that it got a legit release last year.

Goat3001, why did you have to buy Firefly? I was waiting for the price to come down before I jumped on any of the sealed/can't be inspected TV seasons.

Two California stores closing

Redwood City,Ca--Woodside Rd.
and the San Carlos stores have:

Most DVD's are $2.99 or less and TV sets for $6 a set.
Jericho The first season for $6 was the best deal I found.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

^I was at one in Columbus Ohio. They had Jericho the first season. All the individual discs were rubber banded together. Price was $14.99 and then 50% off. Went to check out and was told that I had to purchase each disc at $14.99 and 50% off. It was like a 6-disc set, which came out to be $45 after coupons. No thank you.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

Man, I guess I lucked out when my local Blockbuster closed back in October. I didn't pay over $2 for any disc, and paid $1 for the majority of them. I think I ended up buying over 200 movies/tv shows, which I somewhat regret considering I'm transitioning to Blu Ray. But, still, I couldn't beat the price.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

Yeah I was also curious about this since my store has 9 days left & DVDs are priced at $2.99. Does it keep getting lower every few days or just hits dirt cheap with like 2 or 3 days to go....

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

For me, the prices were $1 the entire week. All of mine came in just jewel cases, but the ones in original packaging were, I think, $5 and ended at $2.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

btw - for those who are thinking of waiting until the last minute to get those $1 and $2 deals.. I just got back and got a bunch of $2.99 discs. I primarily got ones that I was interested in, but there weren't gobs of copies left (thinking those would be the most likely ones to go down to $1 and $2). HOWEVER, 4 were badly scratched and it was difficult finding additional good copies. In one case, there were only 2 copies so I settled with the one that look the best, in another case it was the only copy they had so I settled on it anyhow.

So you may want to see how many copies of the movies you are interested in are still in stock. If they only have a few copies, you may want to get them now while you still have a selection of the best condition discs.

Thanks.

They were $2.00 on Friday, $1.00 on Saturday and Sunday down here (sunday was the last day).

As far as the condition goes, definitely check the discs (it's a pain, but I've seen some bad ones!) - I don't know if the 30-day guarantee applies to store closings (normally PVD movies can be exchanged if they don't play right)

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

Anyone know if the new blus and dvds get marked down more than 10% and 30% off near the last few days?

My local store has less than a week now, going to head back this weekend and see what is left for hopefully around the $1 - $2 range in the used sections. All the new shit they still want way too much money for. Also I noticed the used blus are only 15% off, doesn't look like anyone has touched them since they started closing but the rest of the store is starting to look pretty empty.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

My stores got a week to go and they just marked every used DVD to 2.00 starting today. I bought about 30 titles. There was still a good amount of stuff left but people were filling up shopping baskets quickly.

The Blu's don't get any cheaper, unfortunately.

The La Jolla, CA store closes next Sunday (last day) - they just dropped the prices to $1.99 but the non-new-releases were already low in quantity (maybe 300 left it seemed?) - new releases they had plenty of. Picked up a couple titles that I've been wanting but don't seem to come down in price. Probably won't go back when they're only $1. I'm surprised they don't just take the loss, sell everything for $1 and get rid of it all - it'd save them on paying for employees for the next week and they'd probably come out about the same.

EDIT: One other thing - in addition to checking the movies for scratches - make sure they're the right one!

I found "An evening with kevin smith" tonight for $1.99 - I purchased one for $0.20 at another BB closing but the discs were scratched - I own aEwKS2 and wanted the first, so I decided to buy a 2nd copy. Inside the case were the discs for aEwKS2 (instead of the first).

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009

The dvd's at my Blockbuster went down to 1.99. They have 4 days left. They are 87 or 90% off. It was madness and I enjoyed it. I bought 50 titles approximately but that was divided up between my wife and I. And my wife bought Jericho Season 1 and 2. The 1.99 deal absolutely destroyed the prices of the used dvd shop in town. I went there afterwards and gloated about how much less I paid for the exact same titles in better condition. My wife and I saved a ton of money. Whichever we don't like will get sold to that used dvd shop for in store credit. This is so much cheaper than Netflix!

I did buy 2 dvd's for 1.99 that I already owned and would never sell---that I thought were rare, foreign, and horror (good combo for selling to this place) and sold them to the used dvd shop for in store credit. I made slightly more than double what I paid...if you count instore credit, and I do because that used dvd shop has some amazing deals all year round and they aren't going out of business. They have some really awful deals as well though.
