Blockbuster - 5-for-$20 (<$9.99), 3-for-$20 (<$14.99)[DEAD-Now 4-for-20 and 2-for-20]

I didn't see any topics on this one yet - Blockbuster has upped the 2-for-$20 (titles $14.99 and less) and 4-for-$20 (titles $9.99 and less) to 3-for-20 and 5-for-20.

They also put out some newer titles like Watchmen, Fast & Furious, Coraline and others.

Great prices if you don't mind used discs (and don't mind missing out on any bonus discs/digital copies).

The $9.99 sections have a lot of older hard-to-find-cheap titles (Anime, foreign films, etc..) that never seem to go on sale and most seem to have never been rented.

There are also "clearance" titles for $3.99 (same as 5-for-20, but you can buy less than 5 to still get the deal). Stuff like Indiana Jones was in this section.

Sale goes until either Sunday or Monday (the manager was confused with the wording of the promotion and wasn't sure when it will actually end).

There are also 2-for-$25 on used Blu Rays ($16.99 otherwise). The blu ray sections havent been updated in a while though.

Re: Blockbuster - 5 for $20 (<$9.99) and 3 for $20 (<$14.99) - USED

Went back today to see the new titles - BlockBuster apparently puts out "new" used movies on Sunday Morning. Picked up a few titles that I've wanted.. but not for MSRP (Street Fighter, Obsessed, Spring Breakdown and a few others).

They seem to have also moved quite a few horror titles (ones that rarely go on sale), some good international movies to the $9.99 section, as well as some newer releases like Choke, Bangkok Dangerous, Lakeview terrace, etc..)

But the other reason for replying is to say that the sale ends MONDAY night (not tonight). All used movies have a 30-day guarantee, but the ones I

A couple of locations had new movies on Clearance.

I got Cinderella II, Cinderella III, and The Rescuers Down Under for $9.99 each. I thought that was pretty good for Disney movies.

Ghost (Special Collector's Edition)- $4.99
In the Heat of the Night (original)- I think it was $3.99

I just picked up 3 titles at a Blockbuster for $9, just like in late July. I got The Visitor, My Name is Bruce & Madagascar II. Best deal ever that I've seen at Blockbuster. Haven't seen it at any other Blockbusters.

The Visitor was one of the best movies of last year. It's too bad a lot of people haven't seen it. At least that guy got nominated for Best Actor, which gave the film some light.

Indeed it was one of 2008's best. By the director of The Station Agent, another little gem of a movie. No relation to either of these films, but if you like this kind of story, The Band's Visit is another worth checking out.

Re: Blockbuster - 5 for $20 (<$9.99) and 3 for $20 (<$14.99) - USED

I'm working on a feature of various rental places in the area for the campus newspaper, so I came across this deal by chance this afternoon. I just got done clearing around 80 DVDs from my collection, so I was resistant to even a great deal like this one.

Finally spent enough time going through the racks to come across three I've really wanted to add for a while (There Will Be Blood, Burn After Reading, Zack & Miri Make a Porno). Found the SE of Chinatown and grabbed Changeling to round out the pack.

I went to my local BB and they didn't have the sale. I just bought 4 for $20 but I completely forgot this thread said they had it for 5 for $20. Oh, whatever. I think my BB is going against the grain with these types of sales. I'm happy what I got, though.

My local BB is closing and they have a inventory clearance going on right now, at a whopping low price of $7.99 each. Damn, they had lower prices before they starting going out of business.

As far as I know, the last day for the "5 for $20" was Monday Sep 7 - on Tues my store was back to the regular "4 for $20".

Yeah, the sale ended Monday night and went back to 4-for-20. I was told the 3-for-20 ($14.99 movies) would continue for a little while past the 5-for-20, but going in that Tuesday, both sales seemed to have ended.

It looks like they might have been holding back some titles until after the sale ended (possibly so they can have a larger selection after many were picked up in the 4-for-20) - my local store had quite a few new $9.99 titles the next day (ones I wouldn't have minded picking up for $4).

I'm going to try to edit the title to update the status of the deal.

Just got back from stopping in a location before hitting the grocery store. They've tacked on Away We Go since the last time I stopped in. So, I ended up getting it, Adventureland, and Surveillance for $21. Not too shabby.

FYI, talked a bit with one of the employees and they mentioned The Brothers Bloom might be put out next week. Grain of salt, but it's still worth a look to see if you can snag a rental exclusive (which, by the way, is Summit retail material on the outside -- no BB exclusive strip at the top or anything).

you folks are lucky! The BBV by me is going out of business, so the 4/$20 and 3/$20 are now reduced to $6 and $9 respectively!

yes, that actually is a slight increase. 2 days ago they were $10 and $15, so at least the #'s are going down in the right direction, but still more expensive than when the store was active.

So take advantage of this stuff while you can!

None of the Blockbusters in my area EVER participate in these sales. 4/$20 is the absolute lowest any PVV has gone around here.

Re: Blockbuster - 5 for $20 (<$9.99) and 3 for $20 (<$14.99) - USED

Two of my 4 local Blockbusters had a weekend sale of 5 for $20 (dvds had to be priced 9.99 or less)...

To my surprise it included TV sets. I saw whole seasons of "The L Word", "Jericho", "Deadwood", "Brothers and Sisters", "How I met your Mother" and others I can't remember.

Anyway, I bought season one of "How I met your mother" and four movies: "Hellbent", "The Initiation of Sarah", "Amusement" and "Tropic Thunder" unrated.

I was very happy with my purchase. After getting home I immediately inspected the DVD's and except for a small scratch on one disc, they were all pretty much very nice.

The "sale" ended today (sunday). Kinda wish I had gone yesterday since they did have a big selection (and could tell a lot had been sold already) and plenty of others were going through the TV seasons.

Why wait to get home to check the discs? You should do that before buying them

Yep... It is a shame. My wife and I see previously viewed TV shows at Blockbuster all the time that we want to buy because the deals sometimes are amazing, but since they are sealed and we cannot look at the discs first we refuse to buy them. Same...

Blockbuster has a 30-day 'satisfaction guaranteed' warranty on all their previously viewed media. Of course, when it comes to a TV series where they most likely are only selling one or two copies, I don't know what they would do if one was badly scratched and wouldn't play.

As for me, I ask to preview the discs before the cashier scans them in case of scratches and don't think I've ever bought any p/v'd DVDs there that are shrink-wrapped (never bought used TV shows), but if I were to I'd definitely at least check the discs as soon as I got into my car instead of waiting 'til I got home.

Re: Blockbuster - 5 for $20 (<$9.99) and 3 for $20 (<$14.99) - USED

I already watched the DVD that has the tiny scratch and it played just fine

Over the years I have bought tons of dvd's at Blockbuster when they do their '4 for 20' or '5 for 20' sales and I have never, never had a problem with any of the discs being unplayable. And no, I'm not an employee lol

That's kinda why it didn't occur to me to check the discs as soon as I left the store.

Plus I only paid 4 bucks for the TV whole season. Had the scratch made it unplayable, I could've lived with skipping an episode or two (or even the whole disck to be honest).

Anyway, all the other discs kinda look new and the covers are in awesome shape too. Yay!

Blockbuster really needs to get more competitive on their used/previously rented BD prices....they have been running that same "2 for $25 deal" for like a year now, while the new prices of many BDs have fallen....I always laugh when I go into my local store and see titles you can buy NEW at Walmart or Amazon for $10 or under that Blockbuster is still trying to get $12.50 for used...
