Can't verify until I get home to look, but I'm pretty sure that they usually come with an expiration date of about a year after they are released, and that they can not be combined.

This thread is for the posting and discussion of all DVD exclusives and freebies.

These lists will likely be incomplete until Wednesday or so, since DVDs are released on Tuesday and one of us needs to visit all the stores to confirm things.

Links to the master list and to the trade thread are below.

Volunteers needed: I regularly go to Best Buy and Target; but don't visit the other stores every week. If you work at or regularly go to the Wal-Mart, FYE/TWEC chains, Costco, Borders, K-mart/Sears, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster, Toys-R-Us, or any other store that has DVD exclusives; we'd appreciate any updates you could give us. I am slowly "retiring" from my weekly chain crawls, and will need your help to keep these threads useful.

Not sure about the Blu-ray version, but if Best Buy follows tradition with its prior 2-discs DVD releases, then it may come in an envelope or its own hub. I guess we shall find out on Tuesday

Did anyone ever check to see if Borders had anything for Watchmen last week? I asked at one location but got the usual moronic response, making up her answer as she went along:

ME: "Is there a Borders exclusive version of the new Watchmen DVD?"

HER: "Yes sir, it's right here." (hands me the 2-disc Director's Cut)

ME: "No, that looks like the 2-disc retail version available everywhere."

HER: "Well, that's what we're considering the Borders specialty version."

ME: "I'm not sure what you mean by the 'Borders specialty version,' I wanted to know if Borders had a version with exclusive content, a bonus booklet, something like that."

HER: "That's this one right here."

Her faulty logic made so little sense, I'd have sworn this was a Candid Camera gag.

My experience has been that it never pays to talk to any store employee for any reason, let alone asking about exclusives, in person or especially on the phone.

No disrespect to any employee, they can't possibly keep up with every aspect of every item in their store.

I don't think I hit Borders last week, unless I did my usual removing of the "has anyone checked?" line.

I usually only ask employees if I've already looked and failed to find something myself. And even then, I usually try to verify their answer, since WAY too often their "answer" is just a guess they are clearly making up on the spot. At Borders in particular, it's often difficult to confirm exclusives because the only way to find out is by searching their internal database (not available to customers) and the reps often don't know how to read it correctly. I've learned how to do so over the years, but I need to have someone log in and search for me while I look over their shoulder.

Anyway, I just have a feeling about Watchmen having something exclusive at Borders so I'll look again next week. Three Borders near me closed last year so the closest one is now about an hour away. If anybody can check easier than me, feel free to chime in.

Concerning Best Buy's exclusive BSG Season 4.5 set, does anyone know if this is the same booklet and set of dog tags included in their exclusive Seaon 4.0 set?

Exclusives for big releases (DVD or Book) are usually front and center. DM's, GM's and various Merchandise Managers/Supervisors make sure of it.

When the Twilight and Iron Man Exclusives were released at my particular store, they were everywhere you walked around the store. They were clearly displayed on the New Release stands, Music Information desk, Registers and so forth. The only Borders Exclusive DVD (in terms of content) that wasn't prominently displayed was The Rebel which came with a free poster packed inside.

This is more a problem with the Associates/Managers that work at your store as opposed to the company in general. The store I work at is usually on top of getting the word out to all Managers/Associates/Supervisors of any Exclusives especially for big releases.

To get back on topic, I can confirm that there are no Borders Exclusives for the Watchmen DVD or Blu-Ray releases. The stores are only carrying the Theatrical Cut DVD, The Director's Cut DVD (w/ Digital Copy) and the Director's Cut Blu-Ray. Borders stores currently have some Watchmen merchandise (Backpacks, shirts, etc) on Clearance, but no Exclusives in terms of the DVD releases.

Hi!

I was obviously being a bit hyperbolic when I say, "never talk to an employee". It is useful at times. But like you implied, we usually know a heck of a lot more than they do about DVDs, coupons, how their systems work, and especially exclusives.

I looked back and see that I never updated last week's post. I did indeed make my rounds and found nothing at Borders. I looked again today and nothing new, and nothing on Watchmen.

Also, the outside case picture goes with the Season 4.0 set, as it shows the BSG cast in a Last Supper pose (the right side of the picture this time). I have to go return my standard DVD set and spring for the gift set tomorrow. It's gotta match, you know!!
