Re: Big Lots Part 4

Just got back from the Springfield, NJ Big Lots. Total bust today, everything was pretty much gutted and there was nothing new to report on. After reading about that Kubrick set last night I was hoping to get lucky today but no such luck. I really hope that incredible 20 disc "Looney Tunes" set comes our way. I'm still on the lookout for Animaniacs V 2&3 and Pinky and The Brain V3. The endless search continues...

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Thanks to Johnny Z for the tip about the Lexington store. I took home a slew of stuff. Grabbed the last Kubrick set, the last 40-disc NFL set and the Roots Collection (there were lots of them). Didn't see the IMAX set. Also found a bunch of the animated stuff, picking up a few extras to make available for trades. Still have to sort things out but it looks like what I found has been listed already.

Lots of activity around the display today. Talked with one lady who was feverishly looking for the ER sets (there were none that I saw today) because they were in the ad. Got me to thinking that after these first few days, perhaps these casual Big Lots shoppers may not check back on the DVDs, not realizing how often new stuff appears.

The seasons they had at 0900 were 2, 3, 7, and 9. There were not many of each. I almost bought extra for trading, but my cart was already near $200 full. Lots of new (to me) movies to be found.

Wow! Talk about all of the planets lining up. Great story.

Nothing new in Central Illinois (hit five stores). The Big Lots in Pekin, IL, still had six copies of Smallville S7 BD at 1 PM today.

Dude, incredible finds! I would love to stumble upon all that. Unfortunately, I just called the Big Lots in Springfield, NJ to find out when they restock there DVDs and they told me they wouldn't be because that store is apparently closing down. Terrible news to anyone who lives in Central Jersey.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I stopped by a second Big Lots after work (Farr Bridge/White Horse, Greenville, SC) and they had nothing new either. I stopped an employee and she told me she wasn't sure when new dvds come but "usually Thursday". Will check tomorrow since it's on my way home from work.

A Big Lots in Modesto just put out some new $3 movies only. Fracture, Poseidon, Mickey Blue Eyes, and many more. No new sets.

I'm wondering if there's a general day for all the stores to refresh their merch.
After visiting about 12 over time, I think they put them out whenever they want with no regard to timing.... any day.. any time of day.... good luck in the hunt.....

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Just a warning to anyone who was "flipping" these titles at FYE, they have drastically changed their trade in values on all the WB boxsets.

I was in the local store (Atlanta,Ga) earlier today and someone was trading in some sets listed here. I don't remember all of them but he had Roots, Wonder Woman complete series and History of rock n roll. He had some others but I wasn't looking that well. Anyways, FYE was offering 3 dollars for these titles. The guy was having a fit lol, he thought he was going to get A LOT more than that! It was funny, because they guy kept asking "Please scan it again, that can't be right!".

So I don't know if FYE's trade value has dropped because of massive trades of these titles, or if someone at FYE got wise and told the higher ups. I did notice this store had 2 used copies of Roots for 35 bucks!

HOly shit. What a buy? Anyone know the list price.
I'd say since the singles list for around $65 each, this lists for at least $200 assuming this is the set.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

That's funny. Well, secondspin.com still shows the same prices as before, but that doesn't always match the in-store prices. I thought about trading some in, but decided it wasn't worth the effort. Now I'm glad I didn't...

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Good lord, just when we thought it couldn't get crazier. I just hit 4 stores in Louisville KY, only one had any good stuff. Grabbed a lot there, hit 3 others and struck out, then went back to the original store about 90 minutes later and they were almost picked clean of the $3 HB stuff other than some Flintstones. BUT they had put out Popeye, which wasn't there earlier.

Picked up a few extras strictly for trading with fellow DVD Talkers- I'll be posting some of these over in the trade thread for those interested.

$3 each
Wacky Races
Dastardly and Mutley
Popeye Vol 1
Josie and The Pussycats
Birdman & Galaxy Trio
Pebbles and Bamm Bamm
Jacques Cousteau River Explorations
Larry King - Greatest Interviews
Flintstones 1,2 & 3
Lois and Clark Season 1

$10
Roots Box Set (no Imax or Kubrick yet)

I can't be the only one who has the feeling I'll be dead in the cold ground before I get the time or inclination to even begin to watch half of this stuff, but these HB sets for $3 are just insane.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Here I was happy to find the Blade complete series in York, PA, only to come and see some of the RIDICULOUS deals people are finding now. It would be freaking amazing to find that Looney Tunes set! I'm contemplating going to the other two semi-local stores tomorrow (about half-hour away)

Hmm, might take a ride out. I don't expect to find anything, but I'm bored, it's beautiful out, and I could go for a nice ride.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

grabbed Ride the High Country today. It's WB and not slashed.

In the checkout line they had coupons for this Sunday's 20% off sale, so I might return what i've bought recently, not much really, and pick'em up again on Sunday.

The store also had, The Wild Bunch, and some classic musicals they hadn't had before (some titles mentioned by others recently), and Quick Change which I had not seen here yet. Only a couple of each including RtHC. Looks like they added a cardboard tray to the pallet they had last week. It was mostly the same stuff from last week, though they did have sets still. Including the apparently hard to find Pinky, and Thundercats sets, only 1st vol. for both. Oh yeah and they had about 8 Lakers sets.

$10 sets for $8 soon? I'd like to speculate on hopefully seeing the Warner's Scorsese, Noir series and Gangster's series sets!

I've pretty much given up on my search for Wonderwoman, Thundercats and Blade. All my store got today was a large selection of kids dvds.
