I don't know what "xy scaling" is, but my TV does have a "zoom" feature that enlarges the image to fit the TV screen...but in doing so You lose a noticeable amount of resolution. I watched "Jesus Christ Superstar" in this manner last night. Badly mastered DVD, but it's all that's out there, and I hadn't seen that film in years.

Okayyy... On my 16X9 TV I see a 1:33:1 "square" image with black bars on the two sides. Within that is the letterboxed film. So, basically, I see a supersmall widescreen film in the middle of my screen with black bars on all 4 sides if I don't zoom it. So, yes, both non-anamorphic letterbox and Full Frame.

I don't know what Steve got, but I got mine a few months ago at BL, and it was this new one:

then that's just non-anamporphic WS, it is not full frame -
your problem with the "square" image that contains your picture has to do with your tv setting, not the disc. you have to set your tv to zoom or expand or whatever term your tv uses to have the widescreen picture fill your tv, rather than it doing the anamorphic thing.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Well, I went to a few Big/Lots stores today, and scored a few interesting titles...

First, I picked up
SMALLVILLE Season 7 - BLU RAY ($6)
and
ROOTS (30th Anniversary Edition) - DVD ($6)

Then I picked up
Buffalo Bill
D-Day The Sixth Of June
Casino Royale (1967)
Super Friends - Legendary Super Powers Show complete series ($6)
Helen Of Troy
When We Were Kings
and a Dallas Cowboys double set (Complete History and Super Bowl Champions - $6)

I couldn't believe that I found Smallville on Blu Ray - but there it was! The Roots find was also a major score (I've been wanting to pick that up for years, going back to the original DVD release).

I'm a happy Big/Lots shopper today.

Corner of Sherman Way & Sepulveda. Was the North Hollywood you mentioned the one right beside Kmart? near the 170 Freeway Exit?

Thanks for the tip, I'll head over there.

The North Hollywood BL I went to is all by itself on Vineland, about a block north of Magnolia with a parking lot so small you actually have to wait in line for people to leave in order to get a space. It is truly a pitiful store.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Forgive me if someone has mentioned it - for those of you finding the box sets, how many of them are there in the display? Single copies...multiples? I remember when Who's The Boss was being spotted, I only recall seeing a single copy the whole time I was looking for it.

The only box sets that had multiples at my store was the Super Bowl Sets. The scooby doos they only had 1 each.

I checked the 2nd closest store to me today, nothing there. The new Warner batch hasn't shown up here yet. I hope we get them!

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I learned something today. If you go into a store like big lots and look at the dvd display and it looks like nothing but the same old titles, take your time and look a little deeper before walking away. I went into a big lots today and it looked like nothing new, and after combing through a bit, found 1 copy of "god, the devil, and bob". sometimes they will get just a small handful of titles and mix them in with what is already there. also found a lions gate double feature of "death wish v" with a movie called "double whammy" with denis leary, dont believe this one has ever been mentioned.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

FYI - there were 3 copies of the Smallville Blu Ray, and 4 copies of Roots at the Big/Lots in Oceanside, CA.

I ran across a lot of Bond DVD's at a couple stores, including Murrieta, CA.

Went to two Big Lots today. Nothing.

However, I did score a 24 pack of Kashi breakfast bars for $9.

I found about 6 or 8 of the Scooby Doo Movies, 4 or 5 of Pinky & the Brain, 2 or 3 of LOTR, but alas no Smallville....

I haven't seen those yet, the only store in Dallas I haven't hit recently is Cityplace. Where was this store?

I've been cleaning out the BL on Sherman Way next to K-Mart. Found 15 Bond titles and a few others.

Will be hitting up the Sherman Way and Sepulveda one this morning. Always forget that store is there.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

One of my local stores still got nothing, but at the other i picked up:

Pinky/Brain V1
Thundercats S1 V1
Scooby Doo complete 3rd Season
Super Bowl XI-XX
Super Bowl XXXI-XL

DYING to find the rest of Thundercats, Smallville, Animaniacs, and the remaining Super Bowls (and I thought someone mentioned ER, too?). Hopefully the other store gets this assortment. Unfortunately, their DVDs are always a DISASTER.
