Re: Big Lots Part 4

Found at my Big Lots today in Lorain Ohio a new batch of Warner with a few Universal to boot. Picked up:

Wild Bunch 2 disc UPC slashed
Ride the High Country UPC not slashed
King Kong WARNER NOT 2 DISC VERSION but remastered 2006
All About Eve 2 disc slim case
Fury
Petrified Forest
A face in the Crowd UPC slashed
Advise and consent UPC slashed

Scores more of Warner that I already own. A lot of the Eastwood collection (all snapper) Some good stuff but no box sets as of yet. VERY happy about the Peckinpah!!

Also found the Original Willy Wonka Full Frame in a non snapper case.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I hit two Big Lots in the St. Louis area and both just got their Warner Brothers shipments in. No TV or animation sets but lots of the single titles. Nearly everything listed above. Saw a ton of the Bond titles as well.

I picked up:

That's Entertainment
Good Night, and Good Luck.
Logan's Run
Cabaret
All The President's Men
When We Were Kings
The Wild Bunch (2 Disc)
Pennies From Heaven
Night and Day

Re: Big Lots Part 4

So this new batch of Warners has all been un-slashed or what? I'd like to see Pennies From Heaven and there are several existing Warners (Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, The Bad Seed, Waiting for Guffman) that I'd have picked up were it not for slashed barcodes.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Well, I feel like an idiot. I just found out that I've been driving past a Big Lots every time I go to Best Buy. I never knew we had one around here, so I've always avoided this thread.

I picked up Young Frankenstein (SE), but I'm going to stop again tomorrow. I was in a hurry and only looked very briefly. Does anyone know anything about Private Parts? Not in general...and not the Howard Stern movie.

Droidguy: I just read your post. What do you mean by slashed barcodes?

The Warner titles and only the Warner titles have a machined knife mark through the barcode, so that the Big Lots people can't scan it. The other studios, there's just a white square sticker over the barcode, usually on the outside of the plastic, too, but Warner has for whatever reason felt the need to damage the artwork in order to solve this problem, which is a dealbreaker for me. I guess people are reporting some of the new WB titles aren't slashed, which is good, because there's been some I'd have bought were it not for this practice.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I'm going to check my local store again today. I really hope they will have more Warner titles. I've seen a grand total of maybe five Warner films at my store thus far.

Congrats to those finding King Kong two-disc and the Peckinpahs. I own those already and they are fantastic discs. You cannot beat $3 for brand new copies of these DVDs, and the films themselves are, of course, great.

Come on Warner, start "dumping" more titles of this quality in the NYC metro area.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Yesterday I picked up a copy of "Kitty Foyle" with Ginger Rogers just to have a DVD copy of one of Tex Avery's best cartoons, "Bad Luck Blackie". It's one of the special features on the disc along with the Tom & Jerry cartoon, "Kitty Foiled".
I also got the early John Wayne WB feature "The Telegraph Trail" which features some great stock footage from one of Ken Maynard's silent westerns.

It's not just so they wont scan it... it's so people cant try to return/exchange them for full non-BL price at a different retailer somewhere. I's like the old record cut-outs.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Tons of great titles.. Most / All James Bond, Some John Wayne & Sophia Loren, too many good stuff to mention... What was odd is that the selections I saw about a month back seem to be all gone and the stock is completely different... I don't think they sold them all and then got new... I think maybe they are rotating stock...

I noticed some Universal titles, the $2 Dr. Detroit and Talk Radio are slashed, the $3 ticketed DD & TR are not.

I think maybe long ago Universal was slashing as well, as I have seen some Slap Shot 2s that are slashed, but yeah, the vast majority of the Universal titles I've found (like 98%) aren't slashed.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Went to the Big Lots in North Hollywood and they had, wait for it, it's incredible!!!!! Uh, aerobics DVDs. That's it.

Yep, the worst Big Lots in the free world.

Does anyone know of a better store in the L.A. area that might have some of these great titles everyone is posting about?
