Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Amazon has price matched the Captain America! It's now on it's way to ME! Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea these movies had even been released!

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Picked up the Captain America set, got home and realized I already had it. D'OH!. Most of the other stuff in that bin has been swimming around the $5 bin for quite awhile. I did find a copy of the Veronica Mars movie and it rang up at the $3.94 price.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

When did the $5 bin change to $3.74? Where did they come up with $3.74 price point?

It might be their actual cost.

A few years ago on Black Friday, a lot of DVDs were on sale for $3, but there was a note at the bottom of the flyer saying that in Kansas and maybe another state, the price was something like $3.74 because state law prohibited selling below cost.

Just hazarding a guess, though.

I know that this most probably isn't the reason, but it's nice that, with tax in my state, the total for one of these comes out to $4 even.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

The prices of DVD movies has fallen due to decreased demand(Streaming & Downloading taking over) and competition from other big boxed stores like Big Lots which has been selling them for $3.00 each for a few years. Even the secondary market of the sale of previously viewed DVDs has dropped. Most flea markets , Cash Converters and mom and pop pawn shops have dropped the price to $1.00 each. The Dollar Tree has had quite a large selection of new DVDs for $1.00 each for a few years.

I like the price.

Just hope that the stuff in the bin(s) now are worth buying.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Was in my local Wal-Mart store last night and the $5 DVD bin and $7.88 BD bin were empty. I didn't have time to ask anyone, but I assume there's a massive 'reset' of some kind about to happen.

The $7.88 BD bin in my store has disappeared completely, as has one of the two $5.00 DVD bins. The $3.74 bin has shown up, but it had fewer than 100 DVDs in it, representing maybe 20 different titles--none of them interesting.

Amazon is PMing this w/free shipping (Prime) and they've gone back to the $1 digital credit (rather than the lame $5 Prime Pantry credit) for slow boat shipping. It's not the main offer but you must click the "New from" price link on the item page.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Let Me In / The Crazies(remake) / Apollo 18 / Pandorum for 7.50 and they are on 4 disks and all 16x9

the set is called "4 disk horror collection" I found it in the store but you can buy it at the walmart site and get free "site to store" shipping.

Amazon has it for 11.82 plus 3.99 shipping.

Three of the four movies are highly rated

Need "The Invisible Man" legacy which doesn't appear.

I made a funny.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Update...

Above post revised.

- - -

Home.

Picked up "Phantom Of The Opera" and the Legacy for "The Wolf Man". All the discs are mint, sway.

So you know - "Phantom Of The Opera" is not a repressing, this is the same disc as the 2000 SE; I mean that literally.

What I now need, besides "Invisible Man" is the original release for "Opera". I have a few transparent DVD cases. I plan on putting the old wraparound on the inside with the new cover outside. Along with the booklet it came with (inside). I'll keep my eyes out when I visit my local swap meet and on occasion, pawn shops.

- - -

I went to two Wal-Marts to find that display. My local store did NOT have one. I can tell you that what I saw was eviscerated - the display was nearly empty and in a mess. I'm lucky to have found mine.

And yes, I checked each of the price labels; no slot for "Invisible Man".

That's interesting. The one in the box set is a repressing and matches the other Legacy discs.

Not the case here.

So there's a difference between releases...? Or do you mean the SILENT Opera..?

(Did the Legacy sets ever get single-sided re-releases?)

Yes, the wraparound; cover art. The disc is the same - 1943 version.

Did the Legacy sets ever get single-sided re-releases?
Yup. Appears to be the first disc of select titles.

Here's an example...

Also 2-pack of 2 Dark Shadows "Best of"s for 5.00

Saw another copy of South Park S9 in the dump bin for 3.74, so it's still showing up.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Not so much a sale, but a surprise.

They're selling "Humans: Uncut UK Edition [Season 1]" for $24.99. I picked it up yesterday.

Since when did they start selling Acorn DVDs?
