Got sent back again to get some hair sculpting stuff, and found that aisle packed with browsing women. So to pass the time until the aisle cleared, browsed some more in the DVDs and found 7 more:

Before Sunrise
Dirty Harry
Forever Darling (Lucy & Desi) (in a thinpack case)
The Red Badge of Courage (John Houston film)
Viva Knievel!
Wrongfully Accused (Leslie Nielsen)
Year of the Dragon (Mickey Rourke)

The hair products aisle finally cleared and they didn't have the stuff after all.

The "3 Full-Length Features" DVD of Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet/Phantom From Space/Unknown World" for $1.00 does have crappy transfers as I should have expected. They are "watchable" but none of the movies interested me to keep watching all the way. NO distributor logo/watermarks in the corners of the screen that I noticed so that's something. Much more fun holding the DVD in my hands thinking it would be fun to watch than the actual watching...

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I went by mine yesterday and picked up a couple of titles already mentioned (including The Butcher Boy). They had restocked at some point in the past week. No "To Sir, With Love" or the other hard to find titles, but I got the only copy of Narrow Margin (1952 film noir) which I don't remember seeing mentioned before.

OK then ..Maybe we should expect to see "Crossfire" . I picked up (over several different shipments) "Dillinger", "Clash by Night", and "Born to Kill" and later discovered they were part of a 5 disc "Classic Film Noir collection Vol 2. Narrow Margin and Crossfire being the other 2. I'll keep and eye out.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Pretty good haul at BL this weekend. I finally found one copy of the Ryan's Daughter 2-Disc Special Edition. Also picked up

The Magic Sword (just because of the MST3K connection)
The Promise (looked interesting)
The Wind and the Lion
1941 (with the original cover art!)

and I finally took a chance of the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind/Lost in Translation twin pack.

I'm curious cavie2002, have you asked someone at the store about this? I've never experienced this, nor do I recall anyone else having this problem. I have seen DVD displays move from one location to another (although never very far) - is it possible that's what has happened here?

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

My local Big Lots has not gotten a new DVD in stock for the last THREE MONTHS!

I asked the manager "when do you think you will get any more DVDs?"

His reply "we get a shipment every week. If DVDs are on it, then we put them out. Never know what we are going to get."

Since then, it looks like the got nothing in the way of DVDs.

Fascinating that the inconsistencies between these stores. some have tons, some have nothing, and some (like my store) used to have a big selection and it is now bone dry since no new DVDs have been added for months.

I went by again today - hoping. Nothing. Don't think I will bother going there anymore. The other BL is pretty far from me (about 45+ minutes) - so i will go there when i am in that area.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I've seen differences in what various stores get. Just within the Portland Oregon market, some stores get each wave of DVDs in quantities... others get some DVDs and in lesser quantity.

For those seeing no DVDs, or suddenly seeing no DVDs. I've seen my store "hide" the DVD rack in a corner of the store as lots of new product came in. Usually DVDs are near the front, or in a main aisle. But they had a ton of new displays come in to fill those spaces so it got bounced around.

Also, every once in a while, they will throw a large new restock on an endcap rather than put it on the main display. The boxsets, for instance, got put on an endcap. Pays to read this thread and to ask/look around.

*sigh* Still looking for NARROW MARGIN and KINGS ROW. My store tends to be two weeks after everyone else's on this board. Hopefully, this week ...

I hear you, but I ASKED the manager and he didn't point me to any other table or place in the store to see them. He said "that rack is all we have."

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Not much new, but bought:

ABLAZE (Ice-T and Tom Arnold)
STANDER
I know the picture for the 3-movie dvds might not be that good, but for a buck just to see it, it's cheaper than renting. I can always take it to a pawn shop for the dollar back.
BMX BANDITS (Nicole Kidman)
COACH OF THE YEAR (Robert Conrad)
THE GREAT DAN PATCH (Dennis O'Keefe)

Could the 4th one (or a 5th possibly?) have been Kingdom Hospital Complete Series for $15. That's what I picked up yesterday.

Doesn't sound like one I saw, but I'm sure there's some that store didn't get. Thing that surprised me is that the 2nd store I checked had already sold through all but 4 pieces of the 2-4 disc sets yesterday!

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I'm not sure if this is the case with all Big Lots, but I know I asked the guy at my store and he told me that they only stock the DVD section when it needs to be stocked... They keep the overstock in the back and that includes new shipments... they might have gotten and they put them out when they're running down or low in the store so it always looks full... so if your BL hasn't gotten something in a while it might be because no one is buying the DVD's that are currently out.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I checked my local BL yesterday and they had a lot of new DVDs in. I HATE how they slash the barcodes but for $3 each it's hard to complain. I picked up:

Ryan's Daughter - 2 Disc Set
Year of the Dragon
Prince of the City - 2 Disc Set
The Narrow Margin - An EXCELLENT film noir, I highly recommend it!
East of Eden - 2 Disc Set

I also picked up a copy of the open matte Eyes Wide Shut from the original Kubrick box set. I hadn't heard this one mentioned being seen before.

All of the Barry Lyndons were the original non-remastered versions, so I passed on it.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I'd normally be interested in some of those multi-packs. However, 3 movies for $11? That's over 3 dollars each! That's way above my (Big Lots) budget.

Actually I've been sorta concerned at my BL since they still have two of the big plats of what was the first (?) WB shipment and it seems crowded in the small section that's for DVDs. I wondered if a rumored second shipment came in of equal size that there wasn't anywhere to put them. It seems like they just shifting right now as what was hot has gone out of that first shipment. I guess I need to make friends with the BL folks and see if they'll tell me if there's another plat in the back .
