I disagree completely. Bring on the non-foreign, non-indie stuff!

The only good thing about the more obscure stuff is you have a better chance of actually getting it, since the average shopper will overlook it.

I picked up Swimming with Sharks SE and Dogville.

There was a $16 Woody Allen set still on the shelf. I'm guessing all 5 of us Woody fans here in Muskegon got their sets.

Modesto, CA (eastside store)

This Big Lots dumped their Lionsgate titles on top of the four-sided rack, and filled them into the old stock. Picked up:

Alf Tales: Alf and the Beanstalk and Other Classic Fairy Tales
Alf Animated Adventures: 20,000 Years in Driving School and Other Stories
The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning: Unrated
Dummy
Novocaine
Shanghai Surprise: Special Edition
Solar Crisis (There's quite a story to this one, according to IMDB. Evidently, it was a Richard C. Sarafian film released theatrically only in Japan. Recut for the USA, Sarafian was granted an Alan Smithee credit and the shorter version went direct to video. Unfortunately this DVD is full-frame while the film was shot in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio)
West of the Pecos (Zane Grey Western Classics) 1945 Robert Mitchum film
Wisegirls

also picked up:
You Can't Hurry Love / Love Hurts (Red Carpet Double Feature)
but am not adding it to the collection since I now see they are both full-frame

Saw no Moonlighting S3, but lots of Swimming with Sharks and:
South Beach Academy / Rock and Roll High School Forever (Red Carpet Double Feature)
Dead Zone (TV Pilot)
Snow Queen
Mr. St. Nick
2 other "Zane Grey Western Classics"

No Joan of Arc, Eternal Sunshine, Permanent Midnight, Hitchhiker vol. 2 & 3 or Pans Labyrinth 2 disc at my store. But I did end up getting

Swimming With Sharks SE
Snow Queen
Blair Witch 2 w/ CD
Fullmetal Alchemist vol.10
Robotech: Shadow Chronicles 2 disc collectors ed.

But I will keep checking back for the others. Ive noticed my store gets them at about the same time or often later. So im not worried (though my MMV)

I only saw one copy of Snow Queen at my local store, but it was a floater. I also passed on Open Water since I'm a scuba diver, not sure I would still want to be after watching it. Went back today and they had not gotten an actual display and didn't notice any additional titles. I may make the trip tomorrow to my next nearest Bl, which is ~40 miles away.

Its the 2 disk The Big Red One The Reconstruction. I picke up it and Superman 3 today. The store had 2 new table displays out in the isle the $2 but no Moonlighting and a new assortment of Warner slashed stuff. Most of it was the same as the last warner assortment but I found those 2 new ones.

I hit the Big Lots in Arcadia, CA and picked up:

Shanghai Surprise: Special Edition
Snow Queen
Dogville
Swimming with Sharks
On Native Soil
Blair Witch 2
Searching for Debra Winger
Benito
Novocaine

They had plenty of each title.

No Moonlighting. No new Hitchhiker volumes. But I'm still happy.

Well, my line of thinking is that I'm much more likely to take a chance on a foreign or obscure indie picture when it's just two or three bucks. There's no telling how many new and great and interesting pictures I've been exposed to just because of those Big Lots deals.

And yeah, there's a better chance of getting most of it since the average shopper will avoid all of those titles.

To each their own I suppose.

Stopped by a Biglots that I had not been to in a while. They had restocked on HBO titles and had a new selection of anime titles.

Here is a new HBO title that I spotted for $3:

RKO 281 - The Battle over Citizen Kane (WS 16x9) (starring John Malkovich, Liev Schreiber, James Cromwell, Melanie Griffith, Roy Scheider)

They also had Cracker Vol #3, The Best of Arli$$, Lucky Louie and many other HBO titles already mentioned.

They also had a restock of anime, but I'm not familiar with the them.

They only had a couple of the $2 LionsGate dvds left and they were thrown in the large bin with the $3 dvds.

Still no $2 titles but there was a new Sony/WB single-layer flat of $3 titles. Quite a few older titles restocked along with these new ones for this store (there were several more but I was being rushed and did not have time to make notes):

(Gouged - WB)
Pan's Labyrinth (2 disk - no slipcase)
Superman 3 (old snapper)
Superman IV DE (keepcase)

(Non-gouged - Sony)
Tabitha: The Entire Series
The Sting (FS - which amazingly is the OAR for this one)
An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder (2 Disk)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Rush Hour 3 (WS/FS)

The intended aspect ratio for The Sting is 1.85:1. The original DVD release for it is an open matte transfer.

"Swimming with Sharks" was an easy find in the Dayton, OH area. The Trotwood/Centerville/Smithville Rd. Dayton/Airway& Woodman/ stores all had multiple copies last time I visited those stores.

Grabbed the last Pan's Labyrinth 2-discer (yay! but boo, UPC scratch!) and the second to last An American Werewolf in London. Both seem relatively rare.

I think it's safe to say he lives nowhere near Swansea, MA. Heh. As we've seen, there's no telling how many copies a given store will get. Some parts of the country get multiple copies of certain DVDs. Others get none. And I think if you're willing to pay more for it, you might as well order the 2-disc deluxe edition (contains both uncut international and US versions) for about $10. I think the fun of Big Lots is going in yourself and not knowing what you might find. A little like a scavenger hunt. If you're going to go to the trouble of getting it from someone else, you might as well just order a better version from a store or eBay -- unless you're looking for this specific edition, in which case, please feel free to ignore my suggestion.
