They must be getting ready to start this thing. Not only can I not checkout, but my shopping cart and wishlist is now empty, and I can't add anything to the cart, either by being signed in or while signed out.

The discount applies only to applicable items. Not the order total.

Yeah, that's the absolute stupidest thing. It's especially confusing when the sale hits and you're blindly deleting titles trying to not get the $100 shipping charge. That's why I have my cart loaded now and I am going to get it down under $300 before it starts.

Always hoped the DDD people would comment on this, but it's never happened

a couple of times in the past they'd extend the sale an extra 5-7 days, but maybe even up to Dec 1st would be too much though

I'd imagine as long as it's over before the Dark Knight release date, they'd be satisfied

Thanks for all the suggested additions, everyone. It's still a busy time for me in my business, so the next update might take a bit. At the very least, they'll be added for the Spring 09 FAQ.

Now if only DVDPlanet and DD would stock Criterion's Andrzej Wajda: Three War Films! I was planning to order the set this time around, and am none too happy that it's not listed in either store.

It definitely says this in section 17(g) but I've received plenty of cash back from Deep Discount B1G1 coupons. We'll see. Worth the shot.

I created a thread in the Store Forum to discuss and report DD's price changes (up and down), so hopefully that will take some of the stress off this thread (as well as the upcoming main discussion "It's Live!" thread that I expect the mods will create).

It's here.

Excluded Titles

I haven't seen the mentioned before, but it looks like some dvds will be excluded from the sale. So far I've noticed the following ones have been "disappearing" from the dd site. In the past, this was a roundabout way of excluding them from the sale.

Most titles by Funimation, Geneon, and Nozomi (AKA Right Stuf).
The Disney Treasures titles coming out Nov 11

note - some of these titles are still listed at dvdplanet, but they've been slower in making them "disappear". These are just the one's I've noticed. There are probably others, also.

Of course, nothing is definite until the sale actually starts.

Addendum: Some of the titles that disappeared 2 weeks ago just returned. This may just be a fluke. I'm hoping it isn't & the titles remain during the sale.

I figured out the problem! For whatever reason, you can't checkout with Body Head (Blu-ray) in your shopping cart. That's the title that was screwing me up, so I'm sure there's a few more like that.

Can someone else try to get to the checkout screen with that title in your cart just to confirm? I can get to the screen with everything else in my cart that I've tried so far.

Weird.

Two months ago I could buy this set for $48.97 (plus an add'l $10 off entire order) at DVDEmpire. The discount was at least equal to the one applied during this upcoming sale.

"NOTICE: The fall 2008 sale will start on Thursday, November 7"

So does it start tomorrow, Thursday the 6th, or Friday the 7th? Can anybody clarify?

edit. I'm guessing its supposed to say Friday, based on everything else I've seen in this thread. Am I wrong/right?

Anyone else miss the days when no one was quite sure which week it started and nothing was announced ahead of time?

Living in Canada - these Criterion prices are basically half price.....but I noticed there was a buy 1 get 1 free sale earlier this year - can anyone tell me if that was a 1 time sale or is it likely to happen again?

Based on when past sales actually started I conjecture this is DD speak for "you guys who constantly test the codes early will be able to order after 4pm on Thursday but the rest of the world will puzzle over this and wait until Friday".

In prior sales, I recall the codes being active on the afternoon before the official sale dates. This is probably done as a courtesy to DVDtalk.
