Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only.

Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery though possibly it's 30 days now for most people though there is a discrepancy b/w the receipt and website.
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

i always thought the membership was pointless - until that criterion 50% off sale. but amazingly since the sale I've used them 5 or 6 times as they've had the best price on various things with the constant 15 and 20% coupons + membership discounts. knowing they are going to go even lower is pretty exciting.

Laser, I think the latest info you just provided from B&N will get me to renew at the end of this month when my membership is due to expire. I'll also get to take advantage of a 20% off coupon when I do it, so that along with the new no minimum free shipping will work for one more year.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
That's why I didn't bold or put any emphasis on that sentence because I have not noticed any significant changes in the prices of DVD and blu-ray titles at B&N.com. The prices fluctuate based on latest sales and the current bestsellers. The percent off is about the same as always has been. I think they did slightly improve the blu-ray prices a little over the years but there is still room for improvement in that area.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
These coupons might be worth using even though they are off the list price. They are 50% off list codes. They seem to work on DVDs that are marked with the "MOTHER'S DAY GIFTS" icon. I tested it on the 2 disc edition of Gone With the Wind and was able to get about $6 off with a non-member account at military.com, and $5 off with a member account. Not a bad percentage for a under $20 DVD.
I've had some time to play with both coupon codes today. I discovered the non-member coupon yields a larger discount if you don't have a membership and use either library or military bookstores. It appears both 50% coupons cancel out your B&N membership discount. When I tried the coupons through the main B&N.com website with a member and non-member account I found the coupons gave the same exact discount and price with both accounts. The B&N member discount did not apply to the item in my cart. It also didn't apply the member discount at any of the bookstore sites either. However with my non-membership account I was able to get the coupon discount along with the bookstore discount to maximize my savings. You'll actually end up paying more with these coupons if you are B&N member.
Here are a few examples of DVD prices that are eligible with the coupon I'm getting through military.com with a non-member account. You would get better prices through the library bookstore but may get a shipping charge if the total goes below $25. Prices are before any sales tax.
Out of Africa pre-order $12.19
Barbara Stanwyck Collection: Universal Backlot pre-order $22.59
Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Television Series $104.80
Ally McBeal - The Complete Series $89.19
Here's the link to the Mother's Day Gift area for the coupon, which also includes a section for DVDs.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I ran across another message that mentioned lowering DVD and blu-ray pre-order prices that may shed some answers to your question. Maybe that was what B&N was referring to in the previous message. So far I have not noticed any changes on pre-order pricing yet. Since there was no specific date given for these price reductions I would assume you would see them no later then April 30. The date given for the start of the new free shipping offer for members. Anyway here is a copy of the newest message I pasted below directly from the B&N website.
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/email/...?r=1&PID=33777
Pre-Order Pricing
DVD and Blu-ray pre-order prices are now even lower. We have reduced the price of nearly all DVD and Blu-ray pre-orders by an additional 5%. The prices displayed on the product page already include the additional discount, so there is nothing for you to do except add the item to your cart and check out. This offer is not valid on past purchases and may be subject to change or discontinuation without notice.

I know this isn't the store forum, but it seems like the most active place to post B&N related stuff:
Does anyone else consistently receive crushed merchandise when they order from B&N.com? They seem to tightly wrap every item in a plain cardboard mailer with no shrinkwrap or protective packing of any kind. The result is that the item gets crushed or bent. It's usually not enough to complain about or go through the hassle of making a return, but I've twice received double CD set digipacks with crushed spines, and now a collectible lenticular slipcover on a Blu-ray is crushed/bent/scuffed from their lack of care, and I've had enough.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I must be lucky because I have not had any damaged orders lately. At one time I was having a lot of problems with box sets getting damaged with almost every order, and had to return several for replacements. The last exchange I had to do was in December for a defective DVD that was skipping and freezing during playback. Fortunately I was able to reserve another copy at a local store and easily exchange it.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
B&N.com has lowered prices tonight. I was browsing the blu-ray bestsellers and noticed non-sale titles decreased from 20% to 25% off, while pre-orders dropped to 28% off. Have not had the chance to browse the regular DVDs but noticed a pre-order I have on my wish list dropped in price also. It dropped about 5% since yesterday.
Edit to add: Looks like prices are still dropping. Just had a bunch of CDs on my wishlist get price reductions. Still waiting for the new free shipping offer to kick in. Still getting a shipping charge on a CD in my cart that is under $10.

Did B&N take away the 10% member discount? I noticed the new free shipping has finally started today but I'm no longer seeing any member discount during checkout. Looks like if you have a membership you are paying the same price as everyone else now. So all I'm getting with my membership is free shipping? This sucks!

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
B&N claimed they were lowering prices and not taking benefits away from members. I didn't see anything that said they were removing the 10% discount from members, or that this was temporary. There is little reason to pay for membership if they are going to give everyone the same price. I can get free shipping and save a extra 6% off through military.com without paying for a membership. The membership has lost a lot of value and I see no reason anyone should renew.

First off, they are not removing the 10% discount we get as members. They are simply giving it to online customers for a short period of time as a bonus. They've done this several times. Don't be upset just because others are getting a bonus. Matthew 20:1-16
Secondly, there are hundreds of reasons to stay a member even if this was permanent. Those reasons are the coupons you post. I've saved thousands of dollars over the years with B&N member only coupons and discounts.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
If you look at the updated membership details (link) it seems pretty definite that members will no longer get the 10% discount online. This is incredibly disappointing for those who've already paid $25 for the privilege, not to mention against the initial expectations at the time of everyone's joining/renewing their memberships. Some of the wording in the letter I was sent seems to actually indicate these changes. Things like "we've lowered the prices on bn.com to provide all customers with the best possible value, all the time" and "[i]n stores, you'll continue to receive your great Member discounts on all the products you love" hint at these changes.
This morning, very early, they had the lower prices and the member discount. I was able to snag The Fugitive Kind for 40% off and also get another 10% deducted (plus coupon).
On the plus side, this new policy should save lots of people who mostly order online the membership fee and they should still be able to get comparable prices.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Consider this. And remember this is speculation. B & N is changing their pricing policies. In the past they used a lot of coupons and association/affinity group discounts. If there is a permanent and a lower pricing policy, then to make up for lower prices, B & N will reduce or eliminate other discount offers. The company is not going to make public future sales programs, but it does suggest to holding off making decisions on renewing memberships or even buying from B & N.
P.S. the current 10 and 15% coupon codes still seems to work, including not working with pre-orders.

Also the coupons are becoming less of an advantage for members as well. They are issuing fewer for members and more for all customers. Often you can save 15% with coupons without having a membership. I'm starting to wonder if maybe memberships are gradually getting phased out since there are fewer advantages compared to the past.
