Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only.

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Criterions, Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc.
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order

Return period is 14 days after delivery though possibly it's 30 days now for most people though there is a discrepancy b/w the receipt and website.
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

Single Item 15% OFF, but should be reusable in different transaction and if the Clerks will scan it more than once.

How about that?! My first ever post on this board turns out to be the LAST post allowed on the thread. Since it's obviously going to be overlooked and I think it might help someone down the road, I've copied the original post I replied to and my response to it:

Sorry for the false (?) alarm. Anyone have any ideas why this book might be excluded?

My reply:

TEXTBOOK EXCEPTION!
Whenever a coupon fails to work for me, I first click on Full Product Details and check to see if B&N has declared the book a 'textbook'. In this case, that's what they've done, and coupons usually don't work with textbooks. (Check item iii under "Additional Rules" on this coupon.)

It was activated early as Lasermovies mentioned, and I was able to use it on 6/14.

Thanks, JMC. That is good to know. I didn't know this information was there.

how come i cannot cancel an order that is scheduled to ship on 8/19/08??

i ordered some dvd's, 3 that are in-stock and 1 that is being released on 8/19/08. i know i forgot to check the split order and thus they will all ship when last one is released, but why would they not let me cancel this order and says it is scheduled to ship and i cannot change? that is odd.

That doesn't make sense. I would call their 800#. They can sort it out for you...

Unless you pay the extra to split into separate shipments, they always wait until last item is available (including preorders)

I just received an order last week from the B2G1 free sale that consisted of all pre-orders with different release dates. The order did not ship until the last item became available, which was my choice since I didn't want to pay anything extra to ship when available, and didn't mind waiting. However everytime I checked my order up to the day before it shipped I noticed I had the option to cancel all or part of it. Not sure why you cannot cancel anything since it is not due to ship for almost several months. The only thing you can do is call customer service to see if they can help, or at least have an answer why you can't cancel it.

I have no answer why you can't use the coupon. But was the 15% code a members coupon, or a non-member? I haven't used the 20% yet on an order, but everytime I checked it with my account it gives the discount when I apply it to an item in my cart. I don't know how widespread the problem is with the coupon not working, but it might be interesting to see who can and cannot use it with their member's account.

I must have been thinking of another store. Now that I think about it, whenever I pre-order from B&N, I never order additional items...

Incorrect Tax Rate Charged

Just a heads up... On May 16th I placed two orders with B&N. The confirmation emails I received did not have Virginia tax added (which they usually have). When checking my Discover bill, I discovered that B&N charged me 8.3% tax instead of 5% on those orders. (The result was about a $2.00 overcharge.)

I was told by customer service to email [email protected] with the order numbers. It took over a week, but they just informed me that they are issuing me a check for the overcharged amount. I asked why this happened and they said:

"Due to a system error, the incorrect tax rate was applied to the orders... We forwarded the information to the appropriate department for correction."

There's no way of telling the extent of the problem. But if you placed an order on or about May16th, or if your order confirmation didn't have the tax added on, then I'd double-check your credit card statement.

Barnes & Noble seems to be quirky with doing cancellations. I had a Buy 2 Get 1 Free order where I decided to cancel the whole order. It let me cancel one in-stock item, the pre-order item, but not the final in-stock item. (The order was not scheduled to ship for another 5 days.) I didn't want the one item by itself, as that made it more expensive than other sites. Although the item was not scheduled to ship for 5 more days, they said when I called that they could not cancel it. Rather than send it back and make sure it's credited properly, I just decided to keep it this time.

I was hoping B&N would extend the expiration date of the coupon again but it looks like they decided to finally let it expire.
