Escape From New York 2 Disc at Wal Mart for $5 YMMV

They had the Special Editions mixed in on the shelf with the bare bones editions. Had around 4 or 5 copies of the Special Edition- both it and the bare bones are the same price. Just opened up the Special Edition and it's a pretty sweet package- has a comic book with it. Sign said 2 for $11 but everything I bought rang up as $5. Some of the other discs I can recall:
Wonderland
2 Disc Special Edition of The Doors
2 Disc Running Man
Open Water
Barbershop 2
The Ninth Gate
Sideways
Basic Instinct Special Edition
There were some more though I can't recall which titles. This was at the Wal Mart in Madison, NC.

Starting officially next week the 5.50 bin will be changing to just $5. So for a little while you will find some 5.50 titles mixed in. There are also alot of new titles coming in.

Are these bins in all the Walmarts? I'm in the NYC area and the only one in the suburbs is in White Plains, which I've never been in.

hmmm..they didnt have this display at my wal-mart however they had a new display of 2-pack 20th Century Fox DVD's for $8.xx. One of these two packs is From Hell/Swimfan(WS) but the interesting thing about this set is that the 2-disk "Limited Director's Edition" of From Hell is in this 2-pack which if I remember Correctly is OOP. If not this is still a good deal for the 2-disk set of from Hell.
Another strange thing about this display if that these packs feature 2 FS films, 2 WS films, or one FS film & one WS film.
what i can remember from this display:
Theres something (more) About Mary: Special Collector's Edition (2-disk FS)/Taxi (WS)
Big Momma's House (either 1 or 2?)/Fat Albert
Cheaper by the Dozen/Welcome to Mooseport
I, Robot (FS)/ Planet of the Apes(2001 1-Disk)
Sideways(FS)/Thank You For Smoking (FS)

My friend called me and told me about it, I have yet to check out my local wal mart yet.

9.96 gets you all 3 things, tickets, shirt and bonus disc. Heard it was just extended trailers though.

I glanced at the list at work but I don't have a good enough memory to be able to list them.

Definitely some good $5 disks. They were in the $5.50 bin.

I've picked up:

- Running Man SE
- Ninth Gate
- My Cousin Vinny Classic Edition? (had a cardboard sleeve)
- The Rainmaker
- Catch me if you can
- The Omen (Original)

I've also seen:

- Galaxy Quest
- Escape from NY
- Escape from LA
- POTA
- The Terminal
- Basic Instinct SE2
- AI
- T2 Extreme

Yes. I bought it this morning. $8.93 for that and Swimfan. I also bought that Die Hard set for 9.96. If you're planning on seeing the movie anyway, you might as well buy the set. It's basically a shirt and DVD of trailers for $1.50...

Same here. If I, Robot was WS I would have bought that set. Oh well... I wasn't a huge fan of Burton's POTA or I might have bought it anyway... But I never bought I, Robot, so that would have convinced me. Oh well...

Heh, I just confirmed the 2 disc From Hell myself. Got it!

Cheers, chris and ken.

I don't want swimfan at all, but eh, 8.93 for an OOP disc I wanted, I'm ok with that.

I was interested in the PoA 2 disc out of curiosity, but I have a violent desire NOT to purchase I, Robot...so...

Man, I wish Sideways/Thank You was WS...

Escape from NY Special Ed at WalMart

I wonder if some discs were mis-packaged: I didn't find the special ed, so I picked up the bare-bones version, got it home, and found it didn't have the trailer (as listed on the case), but it *did* have two different commentaries (Carpenter/Russell and Hill/Alves) - neither of which are listed on the case.

Is this really disc one of the special ed? Packed as bare-bones?

Either way, I'm happy - the Carpenter/Russell commentary is what I was really after.

I posted in another thread concerning this. For some odd reason the barebones disc is really a repackaged Disc 1 from the SE version. The earlier barebones disc was a WS/FS flipper that included the trailer. Either way this is better because the Carpenter/Russell commentary is one of the better commentaries out there.

I saw all of these in the $5.50/$5.00 bin about an hour ago.

When I saw that the Escape From New York 2-disc was in there, I thought for sure it was a mistake, or some other customer just tossed it in, so I took it to get them to scan it. To my shock, it sure did scan at $5.00 after all. I took it back, I already have it, and saw two guys looking through the bin. I placed it on top, simply mentioned that it was only $5.00, and the guy picked it up and went and bought it right that minute.
