They will not be carrying it. It is a Milestone release distributed by New Yorker Video. DVD Planet does not carry New Yorker releases.

Received 2 criterions today and they came in a bubble mailer. Perfect condition. Can't complain. I just think they should send dvds that are digipaks or some type of cardboard slipcase in a box. These 2 I got were just amarays. On a side note. These are the first criterions I've bought in a long time and I must say I don't like the new packaging. Clear/Slim Amaray's.

Mark,

Any updates on adding new Blu-ray preorders (especially those from Fox)? I'd love to preorder them and the first wave is due to release on 10/2.

As someone pointed out on the Criterion board, if you get a damaged disc thanks to DVDPlanet's new bubble mailer and are planning to send it back:

Quote:
When returning items to us, use a sturdy carton that will prevent damage to the disc. Do not use a Jiffy Bag, brown paper, or other soft containers
Way for DVDPlanet not follow their own policy for their own customers

Wouldn't you use the same package you receive it in? Mr Harvey keeps wanting to complain

This company insists on using a safe method for customers to return DVDs to them, and that method explicitly requests that the customer not ship merchandise to them in the same manner that they now send the merchandise to the customer, and you don't see an ironic problem with this?

Everyone in this thread making excuses for DVDPlanet, and saying "Well I got the mailer and nothing got damaged for me so I'm okay with the new policy" is in for a rude awakening when their luck runs out. Who will take your side when the time comes, the people just like you who said the new padded envelopes were acceptable?

I just received one of my pre-orders from Dvd Planet and it was in a box.
The next day I received 2 Dvds from DDD and they were in a padded envelope which never happened to me before.Guess they are doing it also.

I've had two orders arrive over the past few weeks, both in fine, sturdy boxes.

By the way, Mark - will the new release KILLING OF SATAN be added to stock soon?

It's not the apocalypse, but it is pretty damn discouraging.

DVD Planet offers some of the best prices online, especially when factoring in the
coupons they release each month, but receiving envelope after envelope makes me
very hesitant to pull the trigger on further orders. After the 1st envelope I called
and had it noted on my account not to use them but the next two came that method
anyway. Some items were ok, others definitely not. It didn't matter what size order,
from one or two criterions to several TV boxsets, they all came in the envelopes.

I tried calling back after the third to speak to a rep about an order I was considering
placing so that it wouldn't ship ala envelope (I had been told that if I placed it over
the phone they could note on the order form not to ship via envelope), but the
rep informed me that it would make no difference whatsoever so I held off. I asked
what determined whether or not an envelope was used and found that it's totally
random as it's up to the people in the warehouse. And it's not just the free shipping,
as I was also told they use the envelopes for all US shipping selections.

So, as you can see, it's discouraging

I know I can exchange the ones that arrive damaged (and I have), but it's a
pain in the ass, and can (at least odds-wise) be thwarted by just stopping
the envelope shipping method. They say it's too soon to tell if the envelopes
are something that'll stick around, and that boxes can get crushed as well.
While I agree with that, I can't imagine boxes have anywhere near the failure
rate these envelopes do. And even when the envelopes don't completely fail,
I'm still receiving the top and bottom discs in cases that are full of dents and
bumps from things next to them hitting them. Not a good thing.

New member, just wanting to comment on this bubble mailer situation.

I ordered several items from DVD Planet recently and all of them had some deformity from the cheap padded envelope. A digi-pack was cracked, a slipcase had crushed corners and another DVD had been so banged up that there were actually puncture holes on the paper cover art. They agreed to replace the last one (I figured the other two didn't warrant a replacement, although it was disappointing), but I am very hesitant about using them in the future - especially considering I have a narrow mailbox and my carrier has a tendency to fold over and cram in bubble mailers, which only causes further damages.

I have a couple box sets due to arrive from Deep Discount and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they show up in a box. Both companies appear to ship from the same warehouse in Itasca, IL, so this is a shared problem. I really urge the person responsible for downgrading the shipping materials to reconsider. They obviously will be dealing with some unhappy customers. I've never had any issue with either company before and I’ve used both of them for years, but if this continues I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere. I’ll gladly forego saving a couple bucks if it means I’ll actually receive my items in new condition.

First they sent padded envelopes to forum members, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a forum member.
Then they sent padded envelopes to me, and I did not speak out -
because I did not receive damaged packaging.

Then they sent padded envelopes with damaged packaging to me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

This is the internet. If one person has a complaint, then twenty others do too. Don't worry, someone will complain.

Will do (not fond of the title of the thread there either).
I'd add in closing that DVD Planet is aware of the comments posted here about
the envelopes as I was mailed by them just after posting my above comments.

Just curious what their stance was on the situation.

I never heard anything from them, but it's nice the message seems to be getting across.
