How much better a price can you expect on the Ultimate Collection? You get all the following in one box, with expected sale prices on each listed:
Superman 1 Deluxe - $24.99 Superman 2 Deluxe - $17.99? Superman 2 Donner Cut - $17.99 Superman 3 Deluxe - $14.99 Superman 4 Deluxe - $14.99 Superman Returns Special Edition - $22.99 Look Up in the Sky Doc & Bryan Singer's Blogs - $9.99 You'll Believe exclusive disc That's a total sale price value of $123.93 + an exclusive bonus disc for only $69.99! That's approaching half-price if you attach a $10 value to the new documentary. I myself would prefer to have the movies in their individual keepcases but that's not worth paying $50 more for me. Heck, I don't even want Superman Returns and could live without Superman 3 and 4 and the Look Up in the Sky documentary, but I'd be still be paying $61 to buy just the 3 movies I really wanted individually vs. getting the boxed set for $9 more. The $9 more is worth it to me for the new You'll Believe documentary, let alone all the additional movies. However it is worth noting you will not get that "Science of Superman" bonus DVD in this boxed set unless Circuit City set that up, which I would say is almost completely unlikely. It does sound however sound like the same special that aired on cable this year, I believe National Geographic, so maybe it will air again on TV or you can get a copy of it somewhere. I don't suppose there's any chance that the Superman Returns that comes with the tin is just a sealed normal version that can be bought seperately, is it? I would happily buy the one with the bonus stuff and return the one from the tin if that were possible.

Just curious, where is Superman Returns being sold in a tin? Is this another Blockbuster video thing like Over the Hedge and Cars?
Here's another way of looking at the pricing of the Ultimate Collection. You get 14 discs for $70, which equals $5 per disc. The price would then break down as follows: Superman 1 Deluxe - $20 Superman 2 Deluxe - $10 Superman 2 Donner Cut - $5 Superman 3 Deluxe - $5 Superman 4 Deluxe - $5 Superman Returns Special Edition - $10 Look Up in the Sky Doc & Bryan Singer's Blogs - $10 You'll Believe exclusive disc - $5 For all the DVD boxed sets we've seen out there where you often end up penalized and paying MORE for the boxed set than you would for the individual releases, this one is unequivocally a TRUE BARGAIN. Kudos to WB for rewarding the serious Superman fans on this one. |
