Probably not.

This is the first time that I remember Best Buy handing out tickets to get in.

Usually the specials are in their respective areas and you can tell what people think are the hottest deals by the direction the inital crowd takes off in.

1 Year at KMart, I got caught up in a Video Game system rush. It was like being carried along by a tsunami. Once I freed myself of it, I had the pick of the OTHER specials that I was looking for....

I gotta believe that the biggest thing will be the cheap DVDs and notebooks.

In my mind preparation is KEY and knowing where you have to go is most important. I have in past years staked out my route the day before.

Also I've listed the minimum store quantities. These amounts are SURE to create a feeding frenzy mentality.

All in all, if prepped properly the experience can be a lot of fun.

Some places they line up even earlier. The good thing about being in the line and getting the ticket(s) to the hottest items is that you can go home (if you live close enough) and catch a few hours sleep/rest and then return to the store at like 10 or 10:30 with your tikcet(s) and get the item(s) you came for.
I did that last year at Best Buy with the portable DVD player they had and they still had most of CDs/DVDs in their early bird sale available too.

Usually the higher priced items like TVs, laptops, DVD players etc. have tickets. DVDs, CDs, software etc. do not. Last year we were offered 2 or 3 (not of the same item) at my local Best Buy. YMMV though.

When I have been in line at Best Buy different people came out at different times for each of the big interest specials. They would hand the vouchers out starting at the front of the line working toward the back. Some items would obviously go quicker than others and quantities available differed.

A couple of years ago I wanted to get a desktop for my oldest. I was given the ticket at 4:00 or so. I had gone into the store Wednesday and eyeballed where some of the minor things were. When the store opened I went and got those, went to the computer checkout, paid and was taking the first load out at 6:05 (6:00 opening). People were still pouring in.

Don't think you can get there at 3:00 for a 5:00 opening and get the most popular items.
